Tiger's tee shots...

He's actually hitting it TOO perfect right now. Twice now, he's spun the ball back way more than he wanted to b/c he had really short wedge shots to a couple of par 4s. He's simply driving it too long and in the fairway. Vijay, meanwhile, is missing pretty much every fairway, but he's able to have the ball top WITHOUT spinning back. It's almost like hitting in the fairway is Tiger's enemy right now. I think he needs to start playing Top Flites or something that doesn't spin b/c his clubhead speed is creating so much spin that he's struggling to control his ball from the fairway.

Wow, quite the thinker. His driving is the problem, because he can't hit his wedges close? MAYBE, Vijay is a better wedge player than Tiger??? Tiger has always created too much spin in his wedge play, but hitting the ball too far on a hole and on the fairway should never be considered a problem.

Oh it shouldn't eh? Hitting it within 70 yards and going back into the wind is a pretty hard shot for ANYONE on Tour. Vijay had one earlier from the fairway at 17 from about 100 yards where he spun it back off the green too. He's been missing most of his fairways, which TAKES spin off the shots.

Right as we're talking about him hitting fairways, he hits it in the trees at the 16th. He'll do well to get it back to the fairway and get his 3rd on the green for a 2-putt par.

Wow did you see his shot from out of the trees just now? Looked like he skulled it right into the fairway bunker...

Yeah, LOL. Terrible shot. Then he turns around and hits it to 20 feet for birdie from the bunker over the water. Funny how fickle golf can be. Skull it on one shot, hit it perfect on the next out of a bunker. Too bad us amateurs can't pull that off. LOL. The recovery shot, among many other things, is what separates THEM (Tour Pros) from us.

That 2nd shot at 18 was the worst I've ever seen Tiger hit. And his 3rd wasn't much better. He'll have to do well just to make bogey. Looks like we'll have a 2-way tie by the time Tiger's done.

Ugly finish for Woods. No doubt he's really angry right now. DiMarco still might tie for the lead at -4 too. As of now, though, it's Donald and Woods tied at the top.

Edit: Nevermind about DiMarco. He's got a 12 footer for par at his final hole.

A tree just got in the way. He's hit plenty of shots worse than that. :nodsmiley

Nope, Tiger has the best stats with the wedge (or wedge distances to be more exact). Better than anyone last I checked.

TTU, typically I agree with a lot of what you say regarding Tiger, but....there's no such thing as hitting the driver too perfectly. Tiger's wedge game was a little off today, and that was the reason he struggled a little. He made no bogeys when he hit the fairways, and he made two bogeys or worse when he missed them...that tells me everything I need to know about the importance of him hitting fairways. :nodsmiley

Tiger should take less loft and take something off his wedge shots. They are spinning crazy even from the rough.
