of anywhere from 40lbs to 75lbs. Keep in mind that the bags are not your standard cart affair that you can purchase through a golf shop. They are heavily reinforced and can hold an inordinate amount of equipment.
For example...Tiger's Buick bag has a steel (at least I believe it is steel) reinforced collar at the base. When you see Tiger sitting on the bag it is designed to hold his weight without bending.
In a typical tour bag they may have 4 to 5 time the equipment that the average golfer carries. Items like extra gloves, socks, rain gear, food, drinks, balls, tees, sunscreen, a first aid kit, an extra shirt, towels, an extra pair of shoes...and the list goes on.
I got hit for excess baggage on a trip to Denver recently. 75lbs!
When I opened my travel case however I found a collection of my wife's shoes and jackets!
How come I can fit all my clothes in one suitcase but she needs two AND my golf bag!!
I understand this all too well. In fact stuff like this has caused many a vacation with my wife to start off on a sour note. We have a 3 year old son and she seems to think that he needs the entire house on the trip. Most recently it was a four day trip to Las Vegas. She had a full suitcase for her clothes, a suitcase for his clothes, a cosmetic bag (a second suitcase), a suitcase for his pullups, wipes, bath stuff, books, toys, etc. I had a small carry-on bag for four days!
Imagine travelling for a week or two weeks with my wife.
Dukman & SuperTiger18, welcome to married life and some friendly advice from one who's been there awhile. Get over it. You may as well get upset at gravity for all the good it will do you.
