Lefty has definitely over reached himself this time - the day the dominant language at
Royal Johannesburg is Afrikaans is the day the sky will fall in.
I suggest that anyone who may be interested looks up the membership list (easily done on
www.handicaps.co.za) and follows the links to Royal Johannesburg and Kensington. The membership is at least 90% English speaking, even after the amalgamation with Kensington.
We now have Lefty leaving because of "overt racism" (at Royal?) - I presume he refers to the prejudice shown against Jews and other non-WASPs and not overt racism against Africans? In 1995, when he was a member, Royal had a number of African members and I'm pleased to say the majority of clubs in Johannesburg have a significant number of PDSA members (Previously Disadvantaged South Africans).
Since he left SA after the installation of a majority black government can we conclude that he doth protest too much?
Unsurprisingly, Lefty's knowledge of history is also very one-eyed. It certainly wasn't the Dutch who started the North American slave trade and while my countrymen institutionalised discrimination, and took steps to end it, we are doing something to redress the balance - we wait with bated breath for Britain to solve the problems in the countries they abandoned with such alacrity including Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and, last but not least Zimbabwe.
