I presume most of you know of Paul Lawrie, the beneficiary of the Van De Velde meltdown at Carnoustie during the Open a few years ago. He just missed another cut yesterday, I feel for the guy, I read a very interesting article about him in a Scottish paper. He has a very good golf swing, likewise with his short game and is one of the better putters out there. Paul, for the most part, has no idea where the ball will go when he tees it up. He has been working on a fade and ends up with a hook, he works on the draw and ends up with a slice, brutal to watch and sad to see. I think he is torturing himself, financially he is fine so he's not out there grinding just trying to make a cheque to support his family. He is considering time away from competitive golf to work on his game and to regain his confidence, a good idea indeed, it would be nice to see Paul compete again in tournaments instead of the grind trying to make the cut.
Man, there are so many Lawrie-type stories in professional golf, it's amazing. Guys get to a certain level having practiced and used a very specific swing. Then, in thinking they must change in order to go to the next level, they tear down that swing and attempt to rebuild a new one. Many never make it back.
It might be argued that winning The Open Championship may have turned out to be a bad thing for Mr. Lawrie. Or perhaps it was Lawrie's response. Either way, I hope Paul makes it back.

It was nice to see a kind word regarding Paul on this post.
Paul Lawrie is a local guy and still spends a lot of time in and around Aberdeen.
He came and opened our new club house at Insch GC and spent a fair bit of time with the youngsters and was really great with everyone.
As for Seve, well..... this is a man who has won 5 majors over a long career and because of his "natural swing" has suffered some quite bad injuries but he has a fantastic career and unlike the others mentioned he will never be considered as a "one time winner"
