There is a lot of validity in that ,which is why my idea was to make th eRyder Cup three way, and play it every year between the winners of the previous contest and the team that did not play in the previous match .
This year would be ROW v Europe at a ROW location, next year would be winner v USA in USA.
We haven't, but I can recognize a fellow fool when I see him.
Another idea might be to make one of the matches between the Americas--North and South--and the rest of the world?
I didn't see the matches, but from what I read, it sounds like Freddie didn't hold up his end of the bargain very well either. Goosen and Scott is a formidable duo, and I knew they'd have to play well to take it. They just couldn't. Tomorrw might be really tough if Furyk can't go...will it just be Tiger against the other two for the point?
From TGC...if Furyk can't go tomorrow afternoon, Tiger will play a singles match against Appleby or Hensby, as chosen by Player. If Furyk drops out during the match, it'll be Tiger versus the two of them for the point.

This is very noble of Gary - but it doesn't make any sense.
Surely the rules are that it is a betterball or foursomes event and if a player (on either side ) can't continue or start, that's tough luck. To put Hensby (or even Appleby) against Tiger is just forfeiting a point when the side with the injury should be doing that. If push come to shove, Mr Nicklaus could always fill in - he is part of the team after all.
I agree, Petermo. A four-ball or foursomes competition is just that. If a participant can't play, his partner should have to go it alone. It's unfortunate, but it's a team competition, after all; and if one team is weakened by injury or bad luck, that is just the breaks of golf. When has golf ever treated anyone fairly?
Besides, I have this sneaking suspicion that Tiger would do better by himself anyway! :nodsmiley
According to a news item on the Presidents Cup website, Furyk injured himself at the 84 Lumber tournament. Surely he should have stepped down and given Jack the chance of picking a sub -- or his match in the singles and foursomes at least should be forfeited. Alternatively amend the rules and find a reserve.

actually IMO, I get tired of all the extra competitions. Lets just have the ryder cup and be done with it. If the ROW wants an international competition, let em go play in
batswana or some where...............

boomer, boomer, that's going to elicit some responses!
The Singh/Appleby vs. Woods/Furyk match was a fun one to watch....I had it as good as lost after Furyk missed that one on 16. But those two are two of the toughest competitors in the game...good job grinding out a half point. Looks like we'll be tied up going into the afternoon matches. Should be interesting.
...but rather it was Freddie who was out of touch, not hitting fairways or GIR.
Freddie took his sweet time warming into this competition, huh? I think the Love pairing was good for Freddie, what with their extensive history. In hindsight it may have been most beneficial to go with Couples-Love right from the start.
I think it will be interesting to see how Jack sends 'em out for the singles. Do you go for the points right out of the gate? Or do you wait and send your big guns out last?
Furyk, Love and Woods have excellent singles records over the years. If you send these three (perhaps with DiMarco) out early it might ignite the team and build some great momentum.
Regarding Phil, many people think of him as a great match-play player, what with his U.S. Amateur and his 7-1 career play-off record on TOUR. But Phil has never won a singles match in the Presidents Cup, and he lost his singles match last year at the Ryder Cup. It'll be interesting to see how Jack treats Phil for tomorrow's matches. Will he bury Phil in the middle matches or save him for a possible dramatic climax?
Keep in mind that the singles pairings are determined one match at a time rather than all 12 at once like the Ryder Cup. Jack and Gary alternate picking first for each match.
Too bad there wasn't one more day of foursomes. I would have loved to see that DiMarco-Mickelson team battle Scott and Goosen. Both foursomes looked awesome this week. Some great matches set up for tomorrow. Should be good.
