I agree, Petermo. A four-ball or foursomes competition is just that. If a participant can't play, his partner should have to go it alone. It's unfortunate, but it's a team competition, after all; and if one team is weakened by injury or bad luck, that is just the breaks of golf. When has golf ever treated anyone fairly?
Besides, I have this sneaking suspicion that Tiger would do better by himself anyway! :nodsmiley
oops,lol.
ya just never know in golf. if Furyk is hurting, it doesn't show. he really is playing some tough golf with many clutch shots. it's kind of amusing to see Tiger after Furyk hits those laser irons and drains those putts. anyway, they are prevailing.
would like to see K.Perry can play well today and get a w. for the home team.
Definitely a few interesting matchups today. I'm really looking forward to seeing Tiger take on Goosen, and Furyk against Scott should be good as well. I kinda have to question putting Dimarco and Mickelson out so late. Since they've played such tremendous golf this week, and are very good at amping the crowds up, I would think they'd be great guys to put out early to get some momentum. I hope that isn't the kind of decision that costs us the Cup.
Early on, 7 US leads, 2 International leads. Stagday, looks like Kenny Perry has come alive today, with a 3 UP lead. Should be interesting to see if the US can hold onto their leads, unlike what happened yesterday in the morning.

turns out it was the kind of decision that won the cup
The International Team sure showed a lot of heart today in the singles matches. Fell behind in the early going but came back to close the gap. Gutsy players, and gentlemen in the bargain. And Gary Player was wonderfully gracious in his TV interview moments after the Cup was decided. Classy guy and a real lover of the game.
Things I was especially happy to see today (please excuse the USA bias):
Justin Leonard gets a singles W in a Cup competition.
David Toms gets a singles W after health- and hurricane-related challenges.
Incendiary play by Kenny Perry.
Yet another W in Prez Cup singles by Jim Furyk, one tough hombre.
The DLIII juggernaut (poor Nick O'Hern).
Priceless look on Phil's face when informed he had more golf to play.
Grinder Chris DiMarco hangs in then makes the Cup-clinching putt.
And my favorite:
Freddy beats Vijay... the most pleasing W of the day, IMO.
This was the most enjoyable competition I've seen in years. I know they don't want to give us too much of a good thing , but they should be able to expand it is such a way as to maintain the suspense and the cometition. Just great stuff from both sides.
I thought it was great as well. That kind of spirit and friendly competition is something that the Ryder Cup could only wish for. There were several instances this week that, had they occured in the Ryder Cup, could have become bothersome situations, but Gary and Jack, as well as the teams themselves, handled them with grace and class. This is the breakout party for the President's Cup, and I only think it will get better as time goes on.
It was also great to see a US team that actually looked like it cared, for the first time since Sunday at Brookline. Hopefully Captain Lehman paid attention to how well the duos of Dimarco and Mickelson and Woods and Furyk played together and got along, as they finally seem to have found partners that they fit well and play well with. Overall this seemed like a very tightly-knit team....whether that was a product of the guys finally pushing aside their "me-first" attitudes and realizing that playing for the team and national pride was the way to go, or out of their tremendous respect for Captain Nicklaus...well, we'll find out next year, won't we?
Looks like next September at the K Club, we'll just have to go and bring that last Cup back over to American soil.
