Today's finish and the resulting praises for the President's Cup competition is a far cry from the joke that it was last year. The ridicule this event took last year, after the tie, very well could've happened again this year. It's a whole different story if Mickelson and Dimarco don't birdie #18 isn't it. :nodsmiley
The powers that be better do something to eliminate the possibility of a tie (like they told us they would after last year's debacle ) or all the gains in popularity made this year will quickly disappear.
Well done the USA - great match and some of the best shots we'll ever see. For a while it looked like another tie but that's the way it goes.
While I think Di Marco's "hypeing" up the galleries is unneccessary, he really did a heck of a job on the last 5 holes where he putted 2nd every time and holed every putt. Eventually it told on Appleby who also showed us what a class act he is.
I could go on and on - my only disappointment was with O'Hern who hits the ball so well and surely could not putt worse with a hockey stick. Sure, some of the other players just culdn't buy putts but at least it looked as if they had a chance. Poor ol' Nick gives the impression that those he holes are by accident!

Sure agree with you about O'Hern. He has a tremendous long game, which unfortunately goes to waste with his putting. O'Hern's putting aside, I think the international's putting was great, ie Retief and Appleby in particular, impressed with immelman, disappointed about VJ. Well played Freddie Couples and Jim Furyk and a gutsy Di Marko
What's the big issue about a tie? The Ryder Cup 14 -14 was a great match and the USA team fought back well to win the last three games. Having a playoff is more ridiculous.
Great result for golf, when these matches go to the wire, everyone wins. If you look back over the last twenty years ,the only Ryder Cup to be seperated by more than two points was the last one.
Fitting that Di MArco stepped up for the winning putt, he was the only player to visibly care last time out. Like him or loathe him, you want him on your team.
What else is there to watch on a Sunday afternoon...certainly not the NFL?
you've got that right Card. lol
anyway, what a great competition and it truly shows how talented these golfers are. tremendous shots hit on both sides and with great short games and trouble shots. everyone was shooting at the stick or the area to get the ball to the hole.
was glad to see K.Perry get hot and have a great day. Goosen's clutch putting was unbelievable.
in ways, it resembled the competition between Jack and Gary years ago.
Interesting that the Ryder Cup enjoys such relative status - the golf yesterday outshone any recent Ryder Cup although the tension and excitement was similar.
Perhaps the way to do this is to change the President's Cup into a challenge - in future Internationals play the winners of the Ryder Cup - that way it would still be Int vs USA but would silence the chattering classes!
That was some of the best golf I have ever seen! Lots of great clutch shots, nerve wracking putts, etc. It was a shame anyone had to lose. Also some great sportsmanship shown by both sides; could you ask for two better captains? Yesterday was a perfect example of all the things I love about the game.
actually IMO, I get tired of all the extra competitions. Lets just have the ryder cup and be done with it. If the ROW wants an international competition, let em go play in
batswana or some where...............

I really don't think that a tie is such a bad thing for a team competition--or sharing the Cup for a year, as a matter of fact. It seems to me that such a scenario is a win-win situation, the product of evenly matched teams playing to an even result. Wouldn't that breed mutual respect?

It breeds mutual respect, but it doesn't breed TV ratings. No one wants to continue to watch an event that can't even give us a winner, or at least someone who holds the Cup.

You have a short memory if you've forgotten the response from the golf world that was caused by last year's President's Cup tie. Golf is not a game that lends itself to ties. Why play if you're just going to share the Cup? What's the point? Yeah, yeah, I know.....spirit of competition and all that, but I think it's safe to say the vast majority of golf fans want to see a winner in these type of matches. Even the Ryder Cuppers feel like they've lost if they don't bring the Ryder Cup home. A tie? That'll bring excitement and more worldwide recognition of the President's Cup.
Somehow hearing the Americans say they wanted to "tie" one for Jack just doesn't have that ring to it.
Everyone wants to see a winner, but if after 28 matches it's a tie, then that's the result. It's not the same when you have an individual competition. The play off at the last Presidents Cup was a farce.
