In what has become tradition at Golf Rewind (ok, so it was only once so far, but we've only been around a year so it's never been different ), for each of the two big team competitions (Ryder Cup and President's Cup), the verbal battle prior to the match is here! This time around, the US team (think Captain Jack will have those guys thinking any other way? ) squares off against the International team, led by Gary Player.
Since the International team isn't our most bitter rival, the players will be pretty cordial in all likelihood, but that doesn't mean we have to be here! Naturally everything written should be taken in the proper spirit, so anything goes (within the language rules of course)...so bring it on!
There's a tie to settle from last time, and Jack's boys are going to show em who's boss...I see a sinking International team ship floating up the Potomac River already!
Well lets just start it off by saying we do have the World Matchplay Champion on the soon to be victorious International team
The soon to be victorious USA team has the champion of the biggest matchplay event of the year on their team, the WGC Accenture Matchplay. :nodsmiley
Hey Lefty...thanks for the support! I tend to think that the Americans might let up a little from the last time the President's Cup was at RTJ and let the International team sneak off the brink of single figures!
I think USA will improve on their Ryder Cup performance, they should make it to double figures.
Hopefully the "double figures" is on the positive side! As an American I never know how these guys are going to play, either physically or mentally. The rest of the world's professional golfers seem to take the Ryder Cup and the President's Cup competitions as just that, competitions. The American teams (and I use that term lightly) seem to just show up and go through the motions. I, for one, hope that the embarrassing thrashing that some members of this year's President's Cup had pasted on them at the previous Ryder Cup will be fresh enough in their minds not to want to be so thoroughly embarrassed again.
There.......that's my disclaimer! Now it's time for the American's to put a whuppin' on the Internationals!
Bryant's a pretty astute guy for noticing that!! I may watch a couple minutes of that event this weekend...maybe during the President's Cup commercials or something.
One of the key questions is how the captains set up the singles - if I were Gary I'd mix them up a bit and try and get a draw with someone like Immelman to play Woods. Immelman has nothin to lose, seems tough enough and can play a bit, whereas Tiger would hate to lose to him.
Then the question is who is #1 in the International team? At the moment it doesn't seem to be Singh who has gone off the boil - not unexpectedly after last year's amazing performances. I'd be inclined to play around Campbell although he looked a little tense as the prospect of L.1 million came a bit closer.
On paper the US has a stronger team but as the Ryder Cup has shown, these events are played on grass!
Prediction - go with the heart - Internationals by 1 point!!!
I hear Gary Player was thinking about Kevin Pieterson as a wild card
I think the internationals will miss Ernie
However Im going to support America, starting to feel a little sorry for those poor fellas, it cant be easy get whupped by Europe in your own back yard, plus if the US wins the Presidents cup and proves theyre not a loada rubbish, itll make it all the sweeter when they get another whuppin in Ireland next year.
starting to feel a little sorry for those poor fellas,
I agree, with Ernie out I'm finding it easier to back the Americans. Besides,we always support the underdog here. I was always a fan of Ernie because of his swing, but after reading In Search of Tiger, the chapter on Ernie convinced me he was a great guy. Now he's out, I 'll be rooting for USA. If they win they will be overconfident next year!
the Internationals without Ernie is like trying to run a marathon on crutches. Toms, even if he has to play with a defective heart, will own the international team single-handedly
