Seems logical. If I were her, I'm sure I'd do the same... can you imagine passing all those dollars by for much longer? I'd have taken the bait for sure. But, then again, I'm a money huggin' rental unit, so, what can I say.
Well good for her to strike while the iron is hot. None of us is promised tomorrow. She's left millions laying on the table the past couple of years. She says she still plans on going to Stanford... it just won't be on a golf scholarship, but I suppose she can afford to pay her way now.
Since the LPGA won't allow her to join the actual tour, is she still on the exemption stuff til she turns 18? Good for her to jump while she has the chance, I hope she does well.
Looks like exemptions for the PGA and LPGA tours and opportunities to play other worldwide (particularly Asian) tours with huge fees allowed! IMO, she's be nuts to not strike while the iron is hot.....who knows what could happen to her healthwise or interestwise over the next 2 years? This way, whatever happens as she grows up, at least money will never be an issue!
I wonder though, if she should win on either the PGA or LPGA tours after declaring as a pro, will they be able to justify refusing her membership simply due to her age? Especially is she really does stay in school and continue to behave as they seem to think a young person should?
Wie's career so far - too much too soon. She has been badly mismanaged from the start. She needed to start slower on easier tours and learn how to win. Instead she played a couple of PGA and LPGA events, with her clueless father as a caddie, and got her butt kicked. Great promo stuff but too much for a 14 year old kid - and she is a kid. Can she hang with the big girls now consistantly - time will tell. As a father of a 15 year old girl, I can tell you that emotionally, Wie is going to struggle and that will affect her game, no matter how good her swing is or how far she can hit the ball. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on her to perform and that will eventually catch up to her. Think Tracy Austin (tennis). My best wishes and sympathy go out to Ms. Wie.

Too many assume her goals are what ours would be. Just what if her "BIG PICTURE" goals were to "make as much noise, make as big a splash as possible; use it as a springboard to other endeavors such as acting, other things outside of sports, etc.. or how about this: What if her goal was to "study, train" in a career field that would afford her a nice income in the end = "MAKE MONEY"!! Don't you think she's already succeeded?

Considering she's was a contender for the women's U.S Open, British Open and she had several other strong finishes I don't think it's too much too soon. She's obviously a very talented golfer. Now I have to agree with you the key in the MENTAL and EMOTIONAL part of her game. But based on her interviews I have a strong impression that's this is something she WANTS TO DO and she's not being pushed. That makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE.
Only time will tell if Michelle Wie is going to flame out.

Rules are rules and LPGA and PGA Tour age restrictions are rules. That means she definitely won't get a PGA Tour card (even if she wins which is highly unlikely) and unless the LPGA makes another exception for her, she won't get a card there this year either. Regardless of her performance.
I hope she steps up and takes the LPGA by storm but she's got some stiff competition. I feel she'd let a lot of her American supporters down if she played a lot of events in Asia (men's or women's). it should be an interesting year for Ms Wie. :nodsmiley
ok no offense to her but....***** FINALLY, i mean jezz every golf central theres a new story on how michelle wie might turn pro and blah blah, its like jezus just get it over with im getting kinda sick of hearing about her and her troubles.

Didn't Aree Song receive an exception to become an LPGA Tour member at the age of 17? In any case, I think it works out for Michelle that she can only play a limited amount of tournaments. I really think it would be a shame if she didn't graduate high school at the very least.
