I gained respect for Freddy. lost respect for Tiger
At the beginning of today's sunday singles, the USA announcers stated that Freddy approached Jack and stated he "WANTED" VJ in the singles match. They made it sound like there was something between them he wanted to settle on the golf course.
After he won his match Freddy clarified that he did not "Want" VJ but rather requested playing with him becasue he enjoyed playing with VJ. Someone must have told him how the announcers portrayed the match and I though it was classy of him to set the record straight.
I lost respect for Tiger playing up his injury when he knew he was in deep trouble in the match. After the watching the winning celebrations, I seen Tiger bear hugging everyone. If his back/ shoulder hurt so much, I dont think he could do that.
I'm not a big Tiger fan , but I think the injury is legit and his effort admirable. I could have done without the expletives , but the competition was intense and that's part of his "package". It's not like he was going up against some Joe Nobody ... that was "The Goose" ... arguably the best and undoubtedly the hottest golfer in the world currently. I loved every minute of it.. Good stuff. I'd like to see them expand these match play, region against region competitions.
It looked like a legit injury to me...also, the hugging and celebrating I saw him do didn't involve the use of his left arm, which was where the injury caused him to hurt the most.
But Freddie's gesture was nice, he's always been a classy guy and to see him play well enough to beat Vijay today was cool.

Ralph Wiggum didn't help you out with that sentence by any chance, did he?

You know I was curious about this also. He gave Freddy a right arm hug only. But when they were interviewing DiMarco after his clinching putt, Tiger did indeed give DiMarco a big bear hug...both arms.
Maybe he forgot all the pain he was in during the moment of jubilation?
Not disappointed in his loss to Goosen, but more so in his impersonation of Dennis Rodman
Tiger was hurt...no doubt about it...but he was certainly over re-acting on the course. He was walking around like he had a broken arm...Gimme a break Tiger. Stop trying to get sympathy because you are playing like ****.

Reason: inappropriate language
i think tiger has more class than to fake an injury. he's a fierce competitor and i don't think he would have quit on some of those shots like he did just to exaggerate his pain.

I was going to say...he doesn't hit a 3 wood 50 yards right into the trees unless there's something limiting his ability to take a normal swing. We saw that happen a few times today. I noticed that on the back nine it seemed like he wasn't hitting it all that far. He was outdriven by Goosen a few times and in particular, his drives on 11 and 12 seemed very short. He had almost 230 into #11, which is peculiar considering that his normal 3 wood (unless the telecast had it wrong and he hit a long iron and not a 3 wood like he said) would be a good 40 yards past where he was.

Yeah right, we've seen him hitting everything miles off line for the past two years while he changed his swing - now it's because he's injured! Sometimes even the best in the world find the pressure a bit much.

Tiger wilting under head-to-head match play pressure ? I can't believe I'm defending him, but you must be joking. Just go look up his match play record and you may want to rethink that, but that implies some thinking was involved in the initial post.

I have no doubt that Tiger was injured and he hid it well until he was in deep trouble on the 18th hole. All of a sudden he looked like he was shot. He knew he was going to lose and played it up a bit for the cameras so the good old USA announcers would catch on and perhaps steal some of the thunder from Goosen. Thats exactly what happened even going to the ridiculous comment by one of the commentators that Tigers arm was numb. How would they know what Tigers arm felt like. The excuses were made for him to lose the match.
I would have like to see him if he had a decent second shot to the green. I think you would have not seen the same reaction.
Actually Tiger was cringing some before 18. Neither one of them was hitting it all that well down the stretch and as Tiger said in his interview, Goosen just made a couple more putts than he did. I thought Miller's comment was interesting... "Welcome to your soon-to-be 30s, Tiger". He'd better get used to back problems if he keeps swinging that hard.
he's a veteran on the tour. look at his swing, it's very smooth and well balanced.
he's got game
as for Tiger, I haven't lost respect for him. everyone has their bad rounds. just because he's #1 doesn't mean he has to have the best round in the clubhouse. you have to remember, those other guys are just about as good as he is. they're all pro's, they do it for their living, and when their hot, they are really hard to beat

The match never actually made it to 18, but the point is well taken. That swing on 17, at the very least, was just your typical swing for someone who can't really use the left side of their body. Like I said, there were others before that were peculiarly short shots for Tiger, so something had to have been wrong. In that match, Tiger outplayed Goosen pretty much the entire front nine by a wide margin, but Goosen made those two 50 footers and a couple 10-15 footers to keep in it, then just played a little less badly on the back nine and won. Given the way they'd played throughout the week going into the match, it was pretty obvious that neither had their best stuff on Sunday. Too bad, because it had the makings of a really interesting match at the start of the day.
