I imagine most of the European players around at the Dunhill Links were asked about DiMarco's comments, and Westwood gave his answer. I don't think he started in of his own accord. I don't think DiMarco did either - he was asked about the difference between the President's and Ruder Cups.
Anyway, I like DiMarco because he cares and isn't afraid to show it. Casey was "naive" and also tongue in cheek. I don't think anyone on either side hates anyone else.
DiMarco, unlike Casey, did NOT say he hated anyone. He made a comment about the difference in the demeanor of the public between the Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup, complimenting the PC on it civility and lack of "hatred". As Westwood said, his comments were made in public - obviously Lee didn't listen to them before criticizing!
When Fred played Christy O'Connor at the Belfry, he hit a magnificent drive down the 18th.Christy hit a famous two iron into the heart of the green. Freddie had a gentle nine iron in. He blocked it ,fluffed his chip and lost the hole at a crucial stage in the match. That his talent has only produced one major also help perpetuate the reputation.
You bring up one incident in a Ryder Cup that was a fluff. I'll give you one incident on the opposite scale. How about the clutch putt he made to beat VJ and giving the USA the cup? Everyone fluffs a shot now and then, but it doesn't give them a reputation of folding. I do believe that Tiger (great chip to win Master's) fluffed a chip this past President's Cup. Didn't give him a reputation, did it.
As for the major's, that's something entirely different. You said Ryder Cup and now you bring up the majors. Whole different story.
Unfortunately, Chris seems to have fallen into the trap which was created and proliferated by a sensationalist media. I guarantee there is no hatred in the Ryder Cup, and DiMarco shouldn't be using that term.
One of the things I appreciated about the last two Presidents Cups was the shortsmanship and tone set by the two mature captains. This is what has made the Presidents Cup so appealing. And this is what is so dearly lacking in the Ryder Cup. I think the captains of the American Ryder Cup teams are too young...they're too close to the players in terms of emotional maturity. I think older, wiser captains would help foster a more decent tone.
I`ve noticed a growing trend in these tournaments (Creamer & Kim in the Solheim and Dimarco in the Presidents Cup) where players are waving their arms up and down to incite/excite the crowd. I`m sure it`s the sort of thing that Sergio has done in the past too or will do in the future , but to me it`s a looks a bit much when it`s done right in the face of your opponent ...I just don`t like it... , especially when both players are walking off the green together after putting!!

C-B-C...
sounds like sour olives to me, whine, whine, whine.
DiMarco needs a white towel to spin around like Big John on his way to his Major win. In fact, the whole team needs a white towel just for that purpose.

...Good idea stagday hopefully they`ll spin those towels rather than `throw them in` like the last time... ...
