US Open

On the TGC mesageboard, somebody said they fancied phil mickelson for the us open, on account of their being little to no rough around the greens? Who do you guys think will win this year?

I think Phil, Ernie and Sergio have the best shot this year...

I think this will be a very interesting US Open this year..Shinnecock has very narrow fairways with very hard and fast greens, this course will be ready come June 14. I believe the US Open is the one tournament that you have to come in and be on in every aspect of the game to compete. I believe Tiger will struggle with the Driver and Vijay will struggle with the putter enough to count them out. Phil is iffy..If he hits the driver straight then he has to be the fav, If not...well you get it. I think Retief Goosen, David Toms and Mickelson are going to do well, but I have a sleeper pick:
Stephen Ames...this guy has been playing well and his game fits this type of course. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST. :D

I totally agree that driving is going to be crucial for the Open. That's why I'll hold off on my prediction after the Memorial. Tiger has finished extremely well the last two starts despite his driving accuracy. I'm going to wait for this weekend to see if he's got that driver fixed. He can't possibly hit 40% of fairways again, can he???? Still, I'll go with Ernie Els as my preliminary favorite (not really going out on a limb I guess).
