I was referring as much to the last comment before mine
Sorry Stl I didn't think my comments were inflamatory about we Americans being at relative peace with one another. Or was I just dreaming the Brits were bombing each other not too long ago.
I'd let this drop Bolt Fore... your comments invite further "comment" and so far restraint has been the order of the day.
This is very good advice. We can have fun and go at each other without the nationalistic pot-shots. All of us love our countries .. let's leave it at that ... and if you're wondering whether I'm referring to YOU, I probably am.

Very correct! as Monty Python would say "and now for something completely different"
As an American whose folks came over from Scituate, England in the 1630's it never ceases to amaze me why the Scots, Irish & English can't get along as well as we Irish, Italian, Portuguese,Swedes,Armenian,Finns,German,French,Eng lish,French Canadians,Spanish, Scots and in the last forty years just about every Latin American country known to man.....As we Americans.
Do americans really get along with each other or just retreat to their respective enclaves and only interact as much as necessary? Race and class differences are still very much a part of the american experience as recent events related to Hurricane Katrina have brought to light.
The relationship between the UK and the USA is great. I have spent a lot of time with their army training together and in combat side by side and it was fun. One English Army officer put it this way. "There is not a country that the English have not offended...and if there is one we missed the Americans did it for us".

Generally, this is the case. There obviously are exceptions but I've never had the feeling that America is one big happy family. Our great wealth and opportunity allows us to more easily tolerate each other.
