Speculation: Las Vegas Purse

Greetings ...

This week's Michelin-Las Vegas Classic is a $4,000,000 event, with a 1st prize of $720,000. It hasn't been higher than that since 2002, the last year Invensys sponsored the event. The 2002 purse was $5,000,000, with a 1st prize of $900,000.

If there were no restrictions on the acceptance of funds from Las Vegas casinos, what do you think the purse might be?

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Didn't the Vegas event have the biggest purse on Tour at one time? I don't know when the restriction was laid down, but I would expect the event to be one of the richer ones in all of golf if Vegas' true monetary might were allowed to be thrown at the event.

I believe this event was the first to have a purse exceeded $1 million.

Whatever the purse, once John Daly is in town they are probably sure to have their money back by Monday morning!

It's all about how much a sponser or group of sponsers is willing to pony up for a given event.
