What's the big deal? Women are eligible to play in the 3 other Majors, if they qualify. Being eligible and qualifying are two very different things. I think both VJ and Hootie are on record as saying they have no problem with women playing.....as long as they qualify.
I wonder what VJ's and Hootie's Johnson's comments are? :)
Hey let the best players compete period. I guarantee you that if a woman gets in and seriously competes in the British Open it will be one of the most watched events in sports. That's just what golf needs.

If you have the skill to qualify, then you should be allowed to play.
I personally don't think a woman will make the cut in a major in about 10 years. (probably Michelle Wie)
Exactly, Dan. This is a good development, and the proper thing. It will also vividly illustrate the skill differences between the very best female golfers and even the most mediocre of professional males.
Whilst I'm sure it would be good TV I cant imagine it EVER happening in a major, ever. No doubt Wie will eventually squeeze over the cut line at a John Poor Classic or a Sony too Open and we'll have to endure the media / Nike overload for years on end.
The only reason The Open Championship allowing women is news is because it was the only Major that specifically excluded women. The others are open to all who qualify.
Great point JC. Besides that, it's only open to women who finish in the top 5 of any of the prior year's women's majors....good to see they're cutting off the chances of anyone pulling a "Beisiegel," but also more restrictive than any of the other three majors.
