In the final round of my club championship this summer, my ball had come to rest next to a small tree. I hit it onto the fairway with my PW which hit the tree in the follow through (I only took half a swing and the tree was rather small so I didn't think I would damage my club) and got bent. I just kept it in my bag and had it fixed after the round. Would I have had to remove the club right after that happened?

No, It happened during the normal course of play. The problem with Kevin Stadler is he doesn't know how his club was bent, so it is considered unconforming equipment.
