I'd read about him possibly making the switch, but balking a little because he was hitting it too high. Apparently the Nike guys musta worked that out. He was excited about the fact that he could work the ball with it when he wanted to, and said he picked up 5-7 yards in the air (as if he needed a few extra yards? ). I guess the main thing will be whether he hits it straight...so far today, he's only 2 under through 9 holes on the easy Palm Course at the Disney event. 4/7 fairways I believe.
There are two of them. The MAX which come out next month and the Tour....I am assuming that Tiger is hitting the Tour.....comes out in DEC some time. The difference between the two that I have seen is that the Tour is a little more netural as far as the weighting goes. The MAX is weighted way in the back.
card, he's now -4 through 16 holes (he started on the back nine so he'll finish on the 9th hole). Interesting note about his round: NO birdies on par-5s today. 4 par-5s and no birdies is pretty hard for Tiger to pull off, but he managed to do it. I think sometimes he hurts himself on par-5s moreso than on par-4s and 3s b/c he tries to go after it too hard on the 5s when he should be swinging smooth to hit the fairway. He could hit 3-wood on most par-5s and still reach in 2, so I don't understand his philosophy of trying to kill it with the driver. After all, a smooth driver for him nowadays flies 315 in the air. Better to hit the fairway than go after it really hard and hit it in the trees so far offline that you have a 150 yard or FURTHER 3rd shot b/c you had to punch out.
league, I could be wrong but I think Greg was trying to say that it's a better value. I actually have some personal experience with this sort of thing. I bought the R580XD and traded in a Callaway Hawkeye VFT for it. The guy I bought it from always has the best deals (his starting price for the R580XD was $375 at the time...I got it for $300 with a $75 trade-in on the VFT). Anyway, like 4-5 months later Taylor Made released the R7 Quad. I was more than a little annoyed when I saw the R580XD price drop to $250 at Golfsmith immediately when it had been $400 at GS when I bought it for $300. So I guess my point is that it's better to wait and buy the previous generation of technology for a lot less.

Cheaper maybe but how can you say it's better? Have you hit it yet?

True. I should've said "better looking" or "more attractive" or something to that effect. The SQ just doesn't appeal to me at all. And I feel if I went to the range with an Ignite and an SQ, and this would probably be mental, I'd hit it as good if not better with the Ignite.
But I've heard great things about the Ignite, and I don't see that much room for improvement over the past generation of drivers (R5 Dual, Ping G2, Nike Ignite, etc.) to justify paying about double the price on the new stuff.
Plus the SQ looks a lot like some of the Walmart-type drivers I've seen, because of the yellow colour (I wanna say one of those 500cc Hippo drivers), and that alone doesn't give me a good vibe.
Now, THAT post actually presents reasons, instead of my previous claim that it's all about looks. Still, I haven't hit it yet so who am I to judge (yet)?
