Speaking Of Young Guns

Of course we're all looking forward to Ryan Moore's first full year on TOUR, but two other young, immensely talented guys bear watching in 2006, having secured their first TOUR cards by virtue of excellent seasons on the Nationwide TOUR.

Big, powerful Australian, Steven Bowditch, 22, and diminutive, wirey Camilo Villegas, 23, of Columbia, who happens to be one of the best young ball-strikers in all of golf, each will debut on the PGA TOUR in 2006 with strong games and big expectations. Keep an eye on these two, folks.

Steven Bowditch will easily be the longest PGA Tour player in 2006. His driving average should be 330 at least.

You might also want to keep an eye on Troy Matteson, who is currently ruling the Nationwide tour. He's had the money title wrapped up for a month or so, and has played with some incredible consistency. A good showing this week and he breaks the Nationwide tour Money record (Zach Johnson).

Smile Young Guns

Hi all

I was lucky enough to play a pro am with a chap called Ross Fisher this year he has just finished 18th on the challenge tour here in Europe. That means a full European card for him on his first year as a pro. He is very, very good, hits it a mile and putts beautifully. He came out of wentworth with a plus 4 handicapp so credentials look strong. He will be a great outside bet in the PGA event there next year. Watch out for him. Any body got any good tips for a small flutter on US events ?

I've got a nobody who will probably be good. Currently in Q-School and has advanced easily through Stage 1 -- Scott Hunter. He won every Carolinas PGA event he entered this year.

I have been following Camillo Villegas on the Nationwide tour this year, he seems to be among the leaders in every tournament and is easily qualifing for the big tour next year.

Great thread idea!

You can also look for Chris Couch who had a decent showing at Western Open this year, when he finished in 13th place.

Glad to hear the talk about Villegas, I've been really enjoying his swing and his swagger. I like seeing the smaller guys doing well, hitting long (I'm 5'7") sort of reinforces the importance of mechanics.

He flopped on tour in 1999 and 2004 (especially last year), where he made four cuts after winning the previous year's Nationwide Tour Championship. He has to get off to a good start next year.
