Good article. Scares me that tv ratings are becoming so important. Picking some unknown Japanese player instead of Monty to play in the MAsters was the first sign.
American TV should not control the golf timetable.

I usually let leaguegolf & stlcard_25 handle these, Lefty, but as you well know it is $$$$$$$$$$$ that controls the golf timetable.... always has & always will.

The prize money on the PGA Tour would not be what is without those television contracts. And the PGA Tour can't grow it's fan base without television coverage. So whether you like it or not the PGA HAS TO have a product that appeals to television and gets eyeballs watching those tournaments.

Sorry Lefty, but American TV IS the golf timetable. The television contract is what fuels the PGA Tour. Without it we wouldn't have golf as we know it. I know, I know. Golf in America and on American TV ruins it for everyone else , but like wazmankg mentioned........$$$$$$ talks.
Good article. Thanks, Frank. One of the rare occasions I agree with Sirak.
There are much better, and sensible ways to improve the product that the PGA TOUR has to offer. A points race, or cup chase is not among them. These ideas are bad and will not fly.

Sorry Golf Fanatic but your link is no good. What was your point?
The article said the Tour Championship was a "gimmick" they used a while back, and now people have lost interest. It mentioned that the Fed Ex cup could backfire if Tiger and other superstars don't qualify. (This is possible since there will be so much weight on the final three events before it). They compared it to the new points race in NASCAR, and there hasn't been much buzz this year since Dale Earnhart Jr. did not make it.
Finally, the article suggested that the PGA make the PGA Championship the final event of the regular season, since it is a major. It claimed that this will be a good solution to keeping interest until the last event.

Thanks for filling us in. I'm willing to take a wait and see attitude on the PGA Tour's schedule changes and Fed-Ex Cup. We'll see won't we.
