Whenever you see the advertised purse - say, $1,000,000 - of an LPGA tournament (excluding Women's US Open, Evian Masters, Women's Britiish Open and maybe Japan event), did you know that only 93.5% of the advertised amount is paid to the players. The other 6.5% is reserved for LPGA administrative purposes.
Furthermore, the LPGA has no reserve fund to dip into when more than 75 pros officially complete an event. So to compensate, a few dollars are taken off existing place prizes. This is why occasional tournament payouts are not a match to the standard LPGA 75-place distribution formula.
A small, but important matter for Commissioner Carolyn Bivens to work on!
