There was a time when getting the top players from various countries to compete against each other was a rarity. Now it happens every week on the major tours. The "team" aspect of this tournament is the only thing that sets it apart from a run of the mill tour event. The popularity of the Ryder Cup and the advent of the President's Cup have turned this once prestigious world event into something most of the world's top players would rather leave off their schedules.
Just a thought.......It's rather hypocritical for Michael Campbell to blast the PGA Tour for not letting him play more events because he's a worldwide player trying to bring golf to the masses and when he's given a great opportunity to represent his own country, he doesn't play.
After the PGA, it's pretty hard to get excited as a viewer since it seems that everything is anti-climactic from that point on...don't know why, because there are still some quality golf tournaments to be played, but I think some of it has to do with other sports moving into the picture here in the US...you have golf winding down and then Football is ramping up at all levels, then hoops and hockey...
