Is Van De Velde Right?

Jean Van De Velde wants to ban women completely from the European tour.

This has nothing to do with sponsors exemptions.
He wants to stop them from even trying to qualify.

Do you think he is right, that women should not even have the opportunity to try to qualify for events?

VDV is just afraid he won't make any more cuts if women start qualifying. He has a hard time beating anybody.

is VandeVelde right?

No, he's not right. Sounds to me like a stereotypical male chauvinist who is afraid of competition from Annika and others. Of course, with his record, maybe he should be afraid.

I'm glad the voting here seems very sensible.

Van de Velde says he has talked to lots of guys on the tour, and he has had no opposition. He must be making that up.

I think all sensible people should be able to agree that women should have the right to qualify.
It is perfectly alright if people get annoyed when someone gets an exemption, but to try to ban them completely, it just shows that he is really afraid that a woman will qualify.

I'm not sticking up for Van de Velde but I understand his point. Women want equal rights on every tour but their own. The new R & A language allows women to qualify and compete in the Open (as they should) but the Women's Tour prevent's men from playing in the Woman's Open. That leaves fools like Van De Velde an opportunity to show us just how foolish they can be.

He's certainly being silly and he's brought a lot of negative press upon himself over something no man should be concerned about. Just play the game against everyone that shows up. Isn't that what professional golf at the highest levels is supposed to be about?

I think if women qualify, ok, but slow down on the sponsor exemptions.

Van de Velde basically is annoyed because he can't play in the lpga yet lpga players can play on his tour.
But he cannot play on the seniors tour, yet seniors can play on his tour.

So why doesn't he moan about the seniors too, and claim that he should be able to play on their tour or they should be banned from his tour.

Answer: He is a hypocrite.

However I am still a bit worried, because he is actually on the board of the european tour and is putting a motion forward to try to block women, and actually ban them. I hope the other guys are not so stupid.

Personally I don't agree, because I think the sponsors exemptions will encourage young girls to take up golf and I think that is great.

However, your argument has a good basis, and I understand exactly where you are coming from, in that it can be argued that they are taking places from more deserving players. Van de Velde's argument on the other hand is just stupid.

Qualify fine. Play without qualifying or on a sponsors exemption NO.

I think they should poll the players regarding what player had the biggest gagging meltdown of all-time and ban that person ... oh and outlaw him from ever again speaking in public about the game, while they're at it.

Your poll takes on a completely different perspective if you remove the commas in your questions?

no, they should be allowed to qualify through the same avenues that men have to.

isn't van de velde the same guy who wanted to play in the women's open championship?

still not entirely sure what he's trying to prove.
