I agree with you, it is over the two days that the score counts.
The 79 is just as important as the 68.
The reason I post stats for day 2, is because some people claim that she not physically able to compete out there. Her stats of day 2 prove that she is physically able to complete.
Putting 2 rounds together is more difficult. But people who claim that she doesn't have the talent, are kidding themselves.
I don't mean you leaguegolf, I know you recognise her talents, but not everyone does.
I looked at her stats for the two rounds and they were about what I expected for where she finished. Those that make a big deal of her long drives need to look at the complete field's driving stats. However there was one stat that jumped off the page and that no one here has mentioned.......
I didn't see two rounds in the 60's........did you? Two rounds at 79 would be just as probable. One round does not make you a tour quality player.
League, now you know what I meant. You seemed to have dismissed her 68 as merely -2 on a par 70 layout. I was was only pointing out, and should have stated more clearly, that 68 was a very competitive round and 2 of them would've put her in the thick of things. I KNOW she shot a 79 on Thursday.
If anyone has played for a living they know round 2 was like a practice round, other then stats it meant nothing. Other then to her marketing people and sponsers. Remember someone named Ty Tryon.
Refresh my memory, but how many majors did Ty Tyron finish in the Top 10... at any age, much less at 15 ? No one in the history of the game, except Tiger, has ever played under the intense scrutiny Michelle experienced Thursday and Friday. To suggest that there was no pressure on her on Friday, in light of her play on Thursday, is absurd, IMO. With all due respct to your experience and that of others you know "who play for a living" I seriously doubt that you have any better idea of what she was going through than any of the rest of us.
A little OT here, but this IS the only Sony thread we have...great to see David Toms go out there and shoot the course record today. After all he's been through since the end of last August, I'll definitely be rooting for him to take the title tomorrow.

What a birdie barrage he fired today! He was making putts from downtown Honolulu!

.......Wie made 7 birdies in the second round!
I'll let the rest of you debate that one.
7 birdies was great. No player bettered it on day 2. Only 1 player equalled it.
ANALYSIS OF WHAT WENT WRONG ON DAY 1:
Some people blaimed her putting. That wasn't great, but it is much more complex than just putting.
Here are her approach shot stats for each round:
175 to 200 yards, Round 1 = 72 feet. Round 2 = 11 feet.
150 to 175 yards, Round 1 = 41 feet. Round 2 = 11 feet.
125 to 150 yards, Round 1 = 26 feet. Round 2 = 4 feet.
under 125 yards, Round 1 = 35 feet. Round 2 = 13 feet.
I think this shows the massive difference in the accuracy of her approach shots in each round. This was the key, and obviously this helped her putting figures to go down in the 2nd round as well.
In the first round, she simply wasn't giving herself many makable birdie putts.
Her accuracy in round 2 was outstanding.
Another OT tidbit...David Duval shot a 63 today, his best score in over three years. Here's hoping it's a signal that he's turned his game around and can at least be competitive this year.
