I'm sure this has been covered, but I must be the only person who likes to see pros have to compete at a level worthy of being a pro. I don't want to see a bunch of -30's in any tournament unless it's a truly remarkeable day for that player.
Three out takes from last week:
"Somebody is always going to play good," said Fred Funk, who whose best round was a 76. "The guys that complain are guys like me who aren't playing well, or not scoring well. You feel like you're hitting good shots and not getting rewarded. Right now, I feel like I'm not a good player. I shouldn't feel that way."
"I think they've blown it," Kenny Perry huffed after a 77 in the third round. "It's a little unfair. Everyone has to play it, but I don't think it's golf, in my opinion. Who wants to shoot 75 or 76 when that's the average score? I tell you what, it's shot my confidence."
"I think it's great," said Brad Faxon, who opened with an 82, closed with a 74 and tied for 23rd at 17 over. "A lot of people thought this course was too easy. I would think Mercedes would be a competitive tournament, not a 30-under romp. If 2 or 3 under is leading, you can have a handful of guys who can win."

Brad just picked up a new fan!!!
I guess there are some easily bruised egos on the PGA Tour.
What some of these guys seem to be forgetting is that golf by it's very nature can be a humbling experience EVEN FOR THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE WORLD, if the course or weather conditions are tough enough.
The things is EVERYBODY HAS TO PLAY IN THOSE CONDITIONS.
For every tournament this season with tough scoring condtions there will be two to three times as many tournaments that are what I call "Birdie Barrages" where the winning score will be at least 16 to 18 under par.
Professional athletes are spoiled...and golfers are no different. They're used to playing perfectly fair, spotless conditions and anything that departs from that is fair game for whining. Who cares what the winning score is? They don't pay players for their score, just how they do compared to everyone else.
Hey this is America...we're entitled to our money's worth and that includes 50-point totals in baseball, 200-point totals in football, 400-point totals in basketball, 30-under totals in golf, etc....the only fans that seem to appreciate defense any more are hockey fans (I don't watch hockey) and most (not all) of them are Canadian. I remember The Steel Curtain, The Purple People Eaters, etc. ...I miss defense. I love it when the course wins and takes some back...although Shinnecock Hills was a little over the top. But otherwise we wouldn't have gotten to witness that putting clinic and awesome display by Retief Goosen. Good post, Grneyedblack.
It's very similar to the complaining that occurred after the 3rd round of the Bell last year. The players were bombing it, ending up in 4 inch rough, and crying because it made them look like a bunch of weekend hackers. I think it's great that they may actually have to work to score well. More of this style golf, and less of that TPC junk!

When they played the pga championship at Whistling Straits, after the wednesday practice round the pros were complaining so much they shortened the holes and never used the tough pin placements. They put on a decent tourney there but i sure would have loved to see them play the hole course. I don't think there would be a person under par at the straits if they played it from the tips and the wind blew.
Notice the two older guys that no longer can bomb it didn't like the 7400 yard track. Coincidence?
Do they want some cheese with that WHINE!
Hey, i would complain about a 7400 yard track too. That's too long for me. Then again, i'm a mid-handicap amateur, who can't hit a long ball very often.
