In fairness, I think the 300k figure was the cost of spending a year playing on tour rather than the entry fee. It'll be including hotels, flights, caddy fees, everything.
I think that someone already posted this, but it CAN be done for a fraction of the 300k stated and if you've got the game the 300k will come soon enough.

I think she does. I'm sure she would hit it further than guys like Pavin or Leonard, and I think the arm strength is there for heavy rough.
If Wei had won a few womans events I would say, go for it. I think she should try and win a woman's event first.

Annika was very accurate at the Colonial, as regards hitting greens, but she would hit the green and her ball would roll off the other end. This was because for longer approach shots Annika was not able to generate the necessary spin to hold the ball on the green. That was from lack of strength, and meant she was either off the green, or had a longer putt.
If you watched Wie in the 2nd round of the Sony, you would have noticed how she could hold the ball plum beside the hole on her approach shots. I simply don't think Annika could do this. If she could, then she could do very well on the pga.
Annika driving just isn't long enough also. At the Colonial her longest drive was 282 yards. Wie's longest drive at the Sony was 334 yards. Even at previous pga events Wie hit drives over 300 yards at the Sony in 2004 and 2005, I don't have stats on the John Deere, but it is likely she hit more 300+ yarders there.

To be fair to Annika, the winds at the Sony were what enabled Wie to hit a 334 yard tee shot...not necessarily that she's that much longer. In actuality, Wie is maybe 10 yards longer than Annika...maybe, from what I've seen.

I'm not sure about the John Deere either, but the Sony course lent itself to 300+ yard drives. The driving stats there are inflated when compared to the average tour stop. That's not to say Wie doesn't hit an occasional drive 300 yards but her Sony driving stats will be considerable longer than any other tournament she plays in.
stlcard,
when I said she hit a 334, I did clarify by saying that she hit several more over 300 yards in each event she played. I don't hink either that she is 52 yards longer than Annika. She is maybe 10-15 yards longer in my opinion, so we are fairly in agreement.

Here are some stats:
Sony 04: 3 drives over 300 yards.
Sony 05: 2 drives over 300 yards.
Sony 06: 7 drives over 300 yards. She also hit 5 more over 290 yards.
For the Casio, there were stats given at the time, I'm not sure how many, but she did hit a few over 300 yards there.
My point really is that Sorenstams longest was 282, and I don't know exacly how long she is able to hit it, but she is so consitant with her drives that I guess she probably doesn't get near 300 at any time. If Wie can have 12 drives over 290 yards at the Sony, it should give her a great advantage on her 2nd shot over Annika.
Also, Sony did have longer driving, but Wie managed to outdrive Furyk on both rounds:
Round 1: Wie 272. Furyk 257.
Round 2: Wie 300. Furyk 291.
Furyk is not a long hitter, but I think he is a longer hitter than Wie, so it is nice that she outdrove him over both rounds.
He also got a top-10 at the Sony. In light of the discussion, I found this worth mentioning.
Very good point, and thanks for backing up my opinion.
You have shown that even with his shorter driving he was able to do very well in the tournament. This really messes up anyone who claims that Wie's driving is too short for her to do well on the pga. Many Thanks.
I know it is about money and I don't have any concern about it. Professional golf has always been about money. She generates more interests for an event and I don't really see anything wrong with it. Lets say Michelle Wie took the spot from Craig Perks. Do you care if Craig Perks plays or not? Will the TV rating be higher if Michelle plays or Craig Perks play? Higher rating means more money for everyone in the long term. Also, non golf fans might watch and fall in love with the game when they tune in and watch her play. Local Club Pros get sponsor exemptions all the time and these guys are not as good as her. I watch the John Deere Classic tournament last year b/c she played. I wouldn't have watched if she didn't play. Until they ban Sponsor Exemptions then I don't see why she shouldn't play.
