i dont see where they really shortened anything other than putting the tour championship up a couple weeks....from the early talk they were gonna shorten the season considerably, like a month or so i thought....then again i figured that would be a later starting time in the year (early to mid february)....but those two tourneys are good drops nontheless

The one thing I see that I don't like is that the Byron Nelson and Colonial are not back to back...that makes little sense to me. They're so close together that it only makes sense for them to be close on the schedule...sending guys from Texas to North Carolina, then Florida, Georgia, back to Texas, and then to Ohio the next week seems like a lot of excess travel for nothing.

I see NBC has the Accenture Matchplay now...we get to see a whole lot more of Johnny Miller talking about every guy in the field "choking" when they miss a key putt now...

There are a few events in there that I don't believe I've heard of before...the WGC-CA Championship and the new Mexican event. Is the CA championship the replacement for the Amex?

*EDIT*

Upon reading this story, it appears that the CA championship will be the held at Doral, so that clears that up.

Oh boy. They've sandwiched the Bell Canadian Open between the British Open and the World Golf Championships now. So who's actually going to be playing in it? The Big names will probably take the week off, to rest up after the long flight to Britain, and prepare for the WGC. The tournament is getting closer & closer to being taken off the schedule entirely by the look of things. This is ridiculous. One of the oldest tournaments on the schedule, with some of the toughest stops on tour (outside of the visits to Glen Abbey) - but what i DO like is the fact that it is at the end of July now, so it should be a bit warmer out when they're playing.

The schedule was written without any consideration of impact on other tours.
Moving the Players to May has lined it up against significant UK events and will hurt the European tour.

No, The Players has come first, at least for the past few years. It may have been different years ago.

Since when do competing tours care about each other's schedule? If the UK events are that "significant" they shouldn't have to worry about the Player's.

You're right it came before The Masters last year:

My Thoughts...

1. As well as no Booz Allen and no Hartford, none of these events...(San Antonio, Las vegas, Funai, Reno, B.C., Southern Farm)

2. Barclays, Tampa, and Western get help. So does Duetsche Bank.

3. Honda, Milwaukee, Canada, Greensboro, and Atlanta really hurt from the schedule. Doesn't help 84 Lumber much either.

Other Tours do not line up full tour events when the USPGA tour has a Major. It does not make sense to attempt to have two meaningful events at the same time. But USPGA have a full Tour event when the other Major is on. That must be for the passport allegy crowd.

The European Tour hits UK in early MAy, as this is the earliest you would want to bet on English weather. Now the Players has moved, the top end of the food chain will need to play in US , diluting the field.

Yet again, USPGA ***** everyone else to benefit themselves. And they wonder why no one likes them.

true, but then again if the move them a month apart, won't you be more prone to bigger crowds at both of them instead of going 2 weeks in a row......?
