He looks like a bigger, stronger Phil Mickelson...similar type of swing with the extension past parallel there. Needless to say, he'll likely be the tour leader in driving distance this season, or if not, darned close.

I think Bubba will be first in distance and just a guess, that John Holmes will be second, because he's not far behind Bubba. He had a could in the 380 range at the Sony I think.
Becuase he has great fundamentals and a 145 mph swing speed or so. That's all you need.
In a GOLF magazine, he went on a launch monitor and his numbers were as follows:
Driver: Ping G5, 460 cc
Length: 44"
Ball Speed: 194 mph
Clubhead Speed: 126
Carry Distance: 360.3 yards
Launch Angle: 15.5 degrees
Launch Spin: 1,865 rpm
Hang Time: 8.05 seconds
Max. Height: 42.1 yards
Landing Angle: 44 degrees
His clubhead speed is lower than Hank Kuehne 's (clubhead speed: 134, ball speed: 184) and his ball speed is way higher, same for scott hend, but not by much.

Oh, my bad on the club head speed then. I read the article too, but thought it said in the 145 range. Cause they kept talking about he's up with with the long drive competitors and all that. Unless I'm thinking of something else...or dreaming all of this. . It's got to be faster then 126...Tiger swings that fast but he's not flying it 360 or even getting close to 400 yard drives.
I read the article & didn't believe the hype until today.
He's like Daly with a brain. That par4 late where there was no safe place to rip a driver, he just smoked an iron. Big Johnny would rip the driver anyways.
HOLY ****! I just heard on TGC that Bubba Watson has NEVER taken a lesson! WOW that is awesome! How in the world? I mean at some point in time EVERYONE has got to have some kind of coaching wether it be, just a bunch of pointers to a complete swing makeover. That puts me in awe, Bubba Watson is my new favorite PGA tour player! Go BUBBA!

Not to reign here on anyone's parade, but it takes a putter on the greens to score on the PGA Tour....and the pressure's much more than the Nationwide Tour...nonetheless I hope he does well on the Tour, seems like a nice guy to me.

PGA site has him @ 6'3" and 180 lbs. He looked a little bigger than that, huh? If you play golf and go by "Bubba", isn't it a rule that you've gotta be L-O-N-G?
It was really impressive watching him drive and then just pitch the ball on, incredible.
On distance how does he compare with John and Tiger because I've seen Tiger hit 380+?
Well, whenever I've seen Tiger try to 'blast' it, it looks like he turns so hard he almost loses his balance, or he'll do another 360-swirl just to wind down out of his turn. Bubba doesn't, look effortless, but much more so than Tiger.
Bubba was popping it 300-325 yrds INTO THE WIND!! I agree, will enjoy seeing him out there this year.
p.s. - when you find out how to hit it like that, let me know...I'm stuck in the 260 range even when I think I 'crushed' it
Let's slow down there bubba. By the time JD was Bubba's age he already had 3 PGA victories including a major in his back pocket. It's still great to see the excitement over some of these young guns.

Based on his performance in approach shots and putting yesterday, and in last years Aussie PGA Masters, he seems to have a good short game.
