For their careers, it's Tiger 10 and VJ-Ernie-Phil-Retief 10...given that each of those players with the probable exception of Retief has more major appearances than Tiger does himself, I'd say Tiger against any of them individually would be a good bet.
Now, as for all 4 of them...that'd be an interesting deal. Personally, I'm of the opinion that Vijay is in the beginning of his slide, and won't win more than 1 more major. Ernie, Phil and Retief are all in their primes while Tiger is just hitting his. Of those, Phil probably has the best chance to win multiple majors in the next 5 years...Retief will probably take a US Open and I'd be surprised if Ernie doesn't win a major sometime in there. So, as I see it, that group will probably win between 4-6 majors in the next 5 years...will Tiger be able to top that? He seems to be gaining confidence with the new swing and the venues set up pretty well for him between now and 2010. I'd say it'll be close, but I think he'll take his 6th major in that span (and 16th overall) at St. Andrews in 2010.
League, League, what's your beef with me buddy??? Something bothering you here??? I'll make you a bet League for the next Four years, you take Tiger woods and I'll take the other 4 who are ranked in the Top 5 of the World Rankings today...
Vijay, Goosen, Michelson and Ells....who ever has the the most majors those 4 versus your Tiger Woods and the loser pays dinner if you think Tiger's that much better than those 4 in the majors, that's essentially what you are saying in case your reasoning isn't aware of it....
Odds are just odds, there's no guarantee of success with odds...bet you had the Colts giving the 10 points on Sunday, you lose.
I've got no "beef" with you Golf-a-holic (other than the beef I'll be enjoying when you lose your proposed bet). Your original post just sounded like you think, individually, the other four in the top 5 have the same "odds" of winning a major as Tiger. Regardless of the meaningless "odds," their collective records say different. Tiger has proven that the "odds" of him winning a major are certainly better than the other four.
So, I'll take that bet.....with one change. Why wait four years? I propose that for every major this year (we can extend this bet if you choose) that Tiger wins......you owe me dinner. For every major that any one of the other four win......I owe you dinner. Payable the week after each major and you can set the limit.
Do we have a bet?
BTW I'm not one to bet on football, but if I made any kind of bet against the Steelers my 10 year old would be all over me!
To restate then, You have Tiger, I have (VJ, Goosen, Ells and Michelson) in the majors of 2006, we can continue if we want to into 2007...the bet is a $20.00 spot payable by the end of the week following the major tournament.
They must win the tournament for either to collect. Good luck to you. Somehow I feel like the guy in the Fram Oil Filter commercial.

Now I do have a "beef with you!" Figuratively speaking of course! I accept your conditions and the bet is on!
I consider this bet a "Tiger vs the Rest" kind of bet and I certainly harbor no ill will toward you, or your position. I think we can have some fun with this here on GR. "The Great Debet" is on!
I agree with your comments and it's not intended to create any ill feelings towards one another, that's not my intention either League...a bet between two men here, the best of luck to both of us....
Cool bet! Gives me one more reason to enjoy the majors. Thanks, guys.
Thanks Donna, I have some Iron City and Islay's Chipped Ham sandwiches for you and I to eat while watching the coverage....LOL...you know I'm kidding you, don't you? I can take the heat on those two items of interest...I love 'em and others HATE THEM...no biggie...
