A PGA Tour player (he's also an about-to-be-out-of-work TV analyst), a former USGA exec and an online sports journalist each offer opinions on both the 2007 PGA Tour -AND- the new TV deals.
With regard to Azinger's comments -- I do think that the tour pros take the Players Championship quite seriously, but if true, why don't they say so more often? At the very least, I would think that the pros would get on the media for not supporting the Players more.
Zinger is dead on when he says the Fed Ex Cup idea is likely to NOT catch on with fans, and smartly compares it to the quick rise and fall of the Tour Championship.
With regards to Van Sickle's comments -- We're definitely seeing the last of the PGA Tour as it has existed. Several events left out of the Fed Ex Cup mix will probably be gone soon, some as PGA Tour events, some just simply gone.
No one specificly offered comment on the "butchering" of both the Western Open (turned into part of the Fed Ex Championship Series), as well as the Canadian Open (wedged in between the British Open and PGA, with the WGC-Bridgestone event thrown in).
Why not make the PGA the final event of the year? That would help create interest, since it is a major. It is certainly a better idea than the Fed Ex cup.

We don't know that yet. Let's give the FedEx Cup at least one year to see what happens.
The WORLD of golf does not come to a close because of the American football season!
Are you suggesting that the PGA Tour shorten, or lengthen, it's season? I've noticed that the European Tour is a year round tour now. Perhaps that's a contributing factor to weaker fields and lack of sponsor support in some events.
Americans know that the world continues to play golf after our football season starts. The PGA Tour and it's sponsors are all too aware that the longer the season, the less top players play. Diluting the product by stretching the season, and the players, to a year round schedule doesn't work over here. By the time September rolls around the kids are back in school, families are attending their own children's games (which leaves less time for watching/attending PGA Tour events), the PGA Tour has been playing for 9 months, the majors are over, and all but those struggling to earn PGA Tour cards are either taking a break or earning millions playing in Silly Season events. Oh, and no sport is going to compete with football in the Fall.
The FedEx Cup may not be the answer but it's a step in the right direction. The PGA Tour season definitely needs a beginning and an end and 10-11 months between start and finish is simply too long.
I'm curious.......Do English soccer teams play year round, or is there a specified season?

The PGA Championship is run by the PGA of America, NOT the PGA Tour! And the PGA of America has no plans to be a pawn in the PGA Tour's game by moving its championship to any other week of the year.
My view is that the PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP should be the season-ender.

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport
Put the PGA in May and let the big time season end in early Sept.
Depending on how tough it is for non-exempt players to play in event s if they perform well, go from top 125 to top 1110/115 for exemption.
