Um, nope. He made $78,000,000 by managing to continue breathing for another 365 days. He made $11 million by winning big golf tournaments, not being paid to show up. This pretty much negates the rest...

It's all marketing and what/who draws in the money.....the answer players like Tiger. If Tiger did not get the exemption, some local head pro may have received it and then what? Nothing.

Tiger or no Tiger, I`d watch this tournament . It`s well worth viewing Scott1s....although in fairness to your remarks, it would/will be hard to top the 72 hole pairing of Tiger and Thomas Bjorn in 2001. That was a classic.

As far as taking away some guys spot and getting paid to show up.

Darwin's theory folks.

Actually it's the combination of Tiger, Ernie Els, and Retief Goosen that makes it compelling. That's three former U.S. Open Winners winners, not to mention three of the top ten players according to the world golf rankings. It may actually be a better tournament to watch than the FBR Open.

.

According to the World rankings, it will be . But it depends on what your criteria are. If it is a close tournament with an up and coming player birdieing the last to pip an established star, it will be better to watch than a tournament where a level par back nine gives a nobody a four shot victory.

If it is Tiger losing out to Stephen Dodd , or Brain Davis pipping Phil Mickleson, it does not matter. It will be better than watching Ben Crane or Barry LAne parring the last nine.

You bring up a good point. We really won't be able to tell until Sunday. However, you can't deny the star appeal of having Tiger, Ernie, Retief, Darren Clarke, and Lee Westwood in the same tournament.
