Michelle Wie has annouced that she will play in the SK Telecom Open held on May 4-7 in Korea.

The prodigy arrives in Korea well in advance and on April 28 is scheduled to visit young cancer patients and boys and girls in orphanages.
Bless her.

Wie, who picked up around $1.5 million in appearance fees at last year¡¯s Casio World Open, was happy to settle for a relatively modest $700,000 this time.
A double bout of kindness.
Hopefully this story pleases mr3856a and Michelle Wie's other fans.
The purse for the entire tournament is $400,000. How nice of Michelle to take $700k just to show up (the winner last year got 1/10th of that). What a sweetheart.
All I can say is, this is the weakest field she's played against yet - Se-Ri Pak even made the cut in this tournament a few years ago. Maybe she's finally found a weak enough field to make a cut!

I had an incling you would be the first to reply.
And to find two negative angles to it:
1. appearance fee versus purse.
2. weak field.
Well done. Your as much an anti-Wie fanatic, as I am a pro-Wie fanatic.
By the way, just in case she misses the cut, the Korean tour is probably the strongest tour in the world, so it's no big deal.

Reality really gets to you, huh? And I'm not an anti-Wie fanatic, it's just there are some people so separated from reality when it comes to her, I just feel the need to bring certain people back down to earth.
(and I'll just ignore that last part - it could only have been meant as a joke)
So I was like WOW - I like get uh 700k and rest field get 400. I played practice round with Sean O'Haire and he like say that father too strict. I ask he married - EWWW!
(and I'll just ignore that last part - it could only have been meant as a joke)
That is usually what the laughing symbol means.

I'll be very disappointed if she were not to make the cut there. I believe she will make the cut. Laura Davies missed the cut when she played on the Korean mens tour, but I think Michelle will do much better.
The Japanese Tour was underestimated by me and many other people.
Mirayato's last place finish showed that, and moreso Tiger been taken to a playoff showed that.
For the particular event, I guess some will depend on the field. Pak made a cut there, but I don't know how the fields will compare. Whatever, I expect her to make it, and then people would have to acknowledge that. I would expect there to be some begrudgery, but hopefully not too much.
Se Ri Pak not only made the cut in the men's event on that tour, but finished in the top 10. It would be a disappointment for Michelle if she didn't finish in the top 20.

I remember that, too. It's amazing that a country that produces so many skilled female golfers has produced ... well I don't think there have been any successful men from Korea, recently if ever.
I think it's cool, since she's Korean. But she does need the experience, she should play as much as possible in tournaments, especially ones that she can contend in, so that she can become more familiar with the final 9 holes on a Sunday, where the pressure is on.
I don't doubt that she has the talent to make the cut, but will she cave in to her mental demons and find another way to miss it? I just have a feeling she misses another cut, because based on past history she has found a way to do so.

SK telecom open is part of Asian tour, not korean tour. It will bring much stronger field than korean tour tournament which Se Ri played. Fred couples also played in this tournament few years ago. Still I think wie will make cut easilly this time. I wonder whether they will pair wie along with KJ choi, depending champion.
