Goosen storms into an opening 7 under. I played Emirates a number of years ago , it is long and tough ,with little rough ,only desert when you miss the fairway. How anyone can shoot that low is beyond me. A promising amateur ,Stuart McMurdo, has shot ten over, so I know the course is still tough.
Tiger cooled a little after the blazing start, but still 5 under through 16. The guys you'd hope would play well have so far, with Goosen at 8 under and Ernie at 4 under.
Great start by Goose. I was wondering what happened to him. He hasn't played yet all year, but he definitely looks fresh. Good to see Ernie start well, and Tiger's looking good. Although I still don't like that Goat of his.
Amazing. Just about to go to bed, it's 1 a.m., look at the leaderboard, and Tiger Woods starts off eagle, birdie, birdie, birdie and is on top of the leaderboard. Something tells me Tiger and Goosen could be dueling it out in the desert this weekend. Hope Ernie gets hot as well today.

Hmm for the dubai victory, on French golf Forum, they say the chips are down. I'll be more prudent, as Lefty said. Be careful of clarke and, maybe, dougherty.
Lefty, you told us about Stenson and Lima, but what about Dougherty, and alos Casey, hmm ? What great players !
He collected a further six birdies but slipped up with a bogey at the par five 18th and a double bogey at the short fourth. As he observed succinctly afterwards: “I turned a great round into a round. I played eight holes really well but I was a little bit frustrated after that.
“There were a lot of positives but my dropped shots were frustrating. You know me – I hate dropping a shot, especially when you have a good round going like that (one). When you drop a shot it hurts you.”
Very solid board going into the weekend, with Goosen at -13, Tiger at -11, Ernie at -10, Clarke and M.A. Jiminez at -8...lots of good players up there, so it should be exciting. Also, a Marc Cayeux sighting...good to see him playing well, I admired how he dealt with the burnt hand last year at the WGC-NEC.
In someones opinion or backed up by actual stats which field this week is stronger Dubai of FBR? Does anyone have actual stats to say which field is better or anyone have time to compute it by world rankings? Just curious.
Very difficult to answer that cos' the world ranking is based on season results and earning. And the purses are obviously larger on pga tour than on european tour
