It's just corporate greed clouding good judgement. Happens all the time, and has already happened to a few other sports that I used to love but no longer support.
It is a joke.
The American Express was held in Ireland a few years ago and was a great success, and many of the American players complemented the course and facilities and were full of praise.
All of the WGC events will count towards European Tour Order of Merit. That is pretty ironic, given that they are all in the US.
Things need to change.

It's pennywise and pound foolish. If you want to grow interest in the game of golf worldwide what better way than to stage tournaments around the world with the best players. Ironically this works to the PGA Tour's long term advantage. Why? Because in most cases the best players in the world want to play on the PGA Tour.

For now. That is, until other countries lure the best of the best with big big dollars just to play in their tourney's, not including the big prize. Would you skip the Masters and go to China or Saudi Arabia if they offered you $3,000,000 to play on their turf?

Well how many other tournament are as prestigious as the Masters? If it's just all about the money sure. But as much money as these guys make it doesn't buy PRESTIGE, which is what the Masters is all about.
And realistically how many other countries in the world have the number of companies ready to pour sponsorship dollars into golf the way corporate america does? Most european and asian companies get more a a bang for their buck putting their sponsorship dollars into Formula One racing, or soccor than they do golf. Now, China may be in that position 10 years from now but not right now.
Now it doesn't take a brain surgeon to skip the FBR Open for $3,000,000 to play in Dubai.
No one.. I was making a suggestion about pro golfers being lured with big money to play outside of the PGA tour.
I never said it would happen. It was just an idea. More figuratively than reality I guess.
