Has Vijay peaked?

Really since the 2nd half of last year (especially this year), you don't see him as consistently on the leaderboards as much. Even this week, he made the cut, but is 11 back, which is where he's been most of this year. And it wouldn't surprise me if he loses the #2 spot in the world soon to either Goosen or Mickelson. He's in his 40s now, but a lot of guys still are in their prime in their 40s. Maybe it's just a mini-slump like Tiger's a couple years ago, or maybe it's the beginning of a slow decline.

No question he has peaked out. He will not win 9 times again on tour. That being said peaking doesnt mean he cant show up and still win a mjor or two more in his career.

toj...
It's nice to see I can get an education for my future right here.

So where will I be this time next year? What is in store for my future?
Will I break par someday? Will I get three birdies in a row?

No question he has peaked huh?

Obviously i dont have a crystal ball and im no educator on the game of golf. I truly believe he has peaked and i see no way he gets back to 9 wins. I mean theres only been what 2 guys to ever get more wins ever anyways its not like im being unrealistic im just stating what i believe to be close to fact. More power to the man if he hasnt peaked out. Its really a testament to what he has done for me to even say hes peaked. Now do i believe he can win more majors..i absolutely do.

I think its much too early to tell. While age may eventually catch up to Vijay I don't think six months of golf is a good way to measure someone at his level. He spends a tremendous amount of time working not only at the range but in the weight room and is probably in better physical shape than most people in their mid 20's.

Will he have a 9 win season again? It is certainly hard to say and with the schedule changes to take place in 2007 the impacts of travel may hurt guys like Singh. Personally I think he needs to fix his putting problems and get back to the method that helped him win 9 tournaments in 2004. Do I think he's got it in him? Absolutely.

One thing I've never understood is the demands that fans and the media place on professional athletes. Vijay had one season in his entire career in which he won nine times. Some are using that as the barometer for his progress or decline. That is a little unfair when you consider how long he's been playing. If you took the same example it would mean that Tiger has probably peaked as well (as we will likely never see a season as dominate as the 2000 season from Tiger or anyoneelse for that matter).

When your best season is 9 wins in a season including a major, it's pretty safe to say you've peaked. Vijay had problems late last season when his normally rock-solid ballstriking went a bit awry. He'll find his swing sometime but the balky putter will still hold him back. He'll still win tournaments though...possibly 3 or more this season.

Your unit of measure is completely inaccurate. What is Vijay's career average (wins per season)? Use that as the barometer...not his best season. If you want to use an example like that than we'd all have to assume that Tiger has peaked and will never win again like he did in 2000. No logic in either argument.

SuperTiger18 and all .. do you think Vijay practices too much? I mean, practice to stay on top is cool..
but maybe he's over-practicing ... ? Maybe he's to the point of burnout and doesn't know it.

A peak is a peak dude not a average of years so your way wrong. Im answering the question and your avoiding it with disguises of taking in more seasons. Thats not the question. Hes asking has his golf game peaked. Well his high peak was his play in 2004 and i dont belive hes going to get back to that level. Now your right about VJ and looking over an entire career but that may be better suited for a different thread and question. You missed the key word peaked my friend.

No I didn't miss the word peaked. In fact...I'd suggest that 9 wins isn't necessarily the best he's capable of (assuming he straigtens out his putting issues and cleans up the ball striking problems). In fact if he won so or seven big tournaments and two of those were majors I'd say it would be a peak year. Look at his 9 wins...a number of them came against weak fields.

Yes and no. I don't think he's reach a point of being burnt out. When you do what you love for a living...something you are truly passionate about its next to impossible to ever get burnt out.

Do I think he practices too much? Yes. He had some problems last year with his consistency and practicing as much as he does could compound the problems. You could end up with paralysis by analysis or ingraining flaws through repeating during those long practice sessions. Now...I'm not saying that is the case with Vijay but it could be a possibility.

How dare you all say he has peaked! He is going to win this year. I guarantee it. How many you ask? I say 6 times, 1 of which is a major. And he will always be in the running. I guess you all can tell that I am a big Vijay fan.

ps. Freddy will win a "couple" this year too...and I'm not talking silly season!

Do I hear cowbells?

J/k man, I could see that for Vijay...I see 3 wins and no majors myself, but that's why they play the events.
