For the AT&T Leaders Distance is Overrated

Arron Oberholser and Mike Weir are making it a two-horse race. They're not doing it with booming drives though.

Oberholser's drives have averaged 252.8 yards, good for 168th place.
Weir is averaging 261 off the tee, good for 139th place.

I agree with you Big Brother Dunk but by having played Pebble Beach
6 times, it is not an extremely long course by the Pro standards. There are
many short par 4 holes and all the par 5's are easy 3 shot holes. The
par 3's are long except for # 8 which is a wedge shot for even me (with
no wind). So the short hitters (I don't think that 260 is short) can
really compete and win here. If they can make it thru 8,9, and 10, it
shouldn't be that hard (as far as length is concerned)

It's also worth noting that Weir has averaged 25.3 putts per round so far in the tournament, good for 1st place, and Oberholser is in 2nd place with an average of 25.7 putts so far.

What's that saying? Drive for show...

Distance is sometimes a good thing but on this course its really not. As someone said above that its a rather short course so a solid drive will work here. The key thing this week I believe is to keep it in the fairway more than distance.
