Is it too early to start predicting the result of the Ryder Cup?

Less than nine months to go, is it too early to start predicting the teams, winners, losers and 'Hal Sutton/Mark James' howlers at the Ryder Cup?

Interesting point , if you look at the World Rankings, in the top 28 , there are ten USA and ten European players. Should they all qualify automatically and each captain pick two others.

Will Ireland (with its reputation as the most hospitable country in the world, ask my liver) hold the best ever party?

Will Leaguegolf ever stop crowing if USA win?

My 2 pennyworth is that it will be a 14 1/2 v 13 1/2 thriller going down to the last putt . Tiger will finally step up to the plate and dominate ,with Chris Di Marco winning most of his games. David Howell,Harrington and Luke Donald will be Europe's strongest players.

I do not know who will win ,because it will be that close............

Past history is on your prediction. That is why I am predicting a win for the US. I believe being well away from home is a good thing for this team, and the irish course is not very 'european' (meaning that it is more like a traditional layout here in the states).

Tiger has finally found a partner (Furyk) and this will free up the rest of the team. Lehman will be a great coach.

Hopefully, USA will find some guys who can putt instead of Perry and Funk. They are good players, but their putting is below par on most weeks.

My prediction is 16 to 12. "This is the year". By the way, I am also a Cubs fan.

I think that Tiger /Furyk and Di MArco /Toms v Harrington/McGinley and Montgomerie/Donald would be awesome contests and too close to call. However has the putter hot would be the winner

A "traditional" layout would be a links.

Your point is taken though - however The Belfry is more like an American-style course as well, as is Celtic Manor (2010).

The choice of course is a bad one for Europe. A links ,such as Portmarnock , would help Europe, but after the American successes at the Opens at St Georgfes and Troon , who is to say?

I think the boisterous Irish crowd will actually help with the US team motivation (specifically Tiger, Phil, and DiMarco). It would be nice to see Davis Love step up his game this year.

BTW...right now JB Holmes would be on the team. I hope to see players like Jonathan Byrd step up his play this year. We need players that can flat out putt.

Are you kidding? It's never too early!

There will a lot of disappointed people if they don't! Most of all the entire Euro Team!

Celebrate, Yes! Crow, no. I'll only cut & paste a few of the bird noises directed at me after the Euro win last time around!

I'd settle for that. Especially the way it's gone for my side lately. In the Olympic spirit, I say.........Let the games begin!

The US is due. We have at least as much talent. It'll be a very close one. I think it would be better for the US if DL3 fades away with the other older guys. I look forward to seeing what some of the newer blood can do.

New blood? We don't have any "old blood." It's still soaking the grounds at Oakland Hills!

For the sake of The Ryder Cup...it would probably be best if America won it this year! (please don`t ask me to repeat that)

The Presidents Cup was very exciting (especially if you were American), but I wouldn`t like to see The Ryder Cup lose it`s following in America and have The Presidents Cup therefore overtake it!

Yes, I think it's just a tad too early. But this topic seems to get most people going. The only two predictions I have at this time are 1) Ireland will make a stunningly impressive host, and 2) The European team will be more inspired and motivated.

I have always felt the OWGR should be used to pick the 10 automatic qualifiers for each team.

I certainly hope so. Personally, I really do not care which team wins or loses. I just don't think that is very important. What is more important, in my opinion, is for the matches to be thrilling, interesting and inspired. I think the Ryder and Presidents Cups serve golf best in showing the entire sporting world how great a game golf is.

Do you think they would stop playing, or try and change the rules to suit them? Bit like the Americas Cup from thirty years ago.

I have this horrible feeling that USA might do it thisyear. I think I'll book some holiday at he end of September, somewhere without computers

It's 8 v 8 going into the singles and here is the draw

Tiger v Darren Clarke
Phil v Padraig HArrington
Furyk v Luke Donald
Di AMrco v Thomas Bjorn
Toms v Sergio
Perry v Howell
Campbell v Stenson
Verplank v Jose MAria
DL3 v Monty
Freddie v McGinley
Bryant v Jimenez
Cink v Westwood

I've taken the top twelve off the rankings and fiddled the draw to make it interesting. Di Marco v Bjorn would be a bar room brawl, they would have cut men not caddies.

Seeing that draw makes me far more confident of a European victory. 16-12 or better.

I suppose it's possible. That's what happened in 1979 to help "suit" GB&I.....wasn't it?
