Why not take the # 1 player in the world. I'll put a Tiger in my tank every time.
What fun would it be to pick Tiger every single tournament. Sure, I would love to see him win, but everyone knows that when Tiger is in a tournament, he has got a great shot at winning.
Let's start with the Ben Hogan Bracket. The ultimate would be an Els-Mickelson showdown in the quarters, or perhaps Els and Michael Campbell. Besides Campbell, Mike Weir, Stewart Cink and Fred Funk loom as potential roadblocks for Els. A possible 2nd-round match between Mickelson and John Daly could be fun. If Mickelson gets to the third round, watch out for Lee Westwood, who played well in Los Angeles. Finally, Michael Campbell needs to reach the quarters in order to secure Special Temporary Membership, which would make him eligible for the Memorial and Barclays-Westchester events.
Of course, longshot Tom Lehman just might screw up the equation.
In the Bobby Jones bracket, you have - besides Tiger - David Toms, KJ Choi, Stuart Appleby and Jose-Maria Olazabal. The round-1 match between Adam Scott and Lucas Glover should be fun to watch. If Scott survives that, he could potentially face fellow Aussie Stuart Appleby in round-two. A possible round-three match might have Tiger Woods face Tim Herron. Tiger and Lumpy seem to mesh well together, and you may recall their pairing in the 4th round of the 1999 US Open at Pinehurst.
In the Gary Player bracket, I'd like these potential 3rd-round matchups: Vijay Singh vs Padraig Harrington, and Chris DiMarco vs Davis Love III. Others to watch are Rory Sabbatini, Tim Clark and Kenny Perry.
And finally in the Sam Snead Bracket, Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, Justin Leonard and Luke Donald might be close to the top as favorites. If he's on "GO", then Colin Montgomerie looms as a spoiler, while Fred Couples will be the sentimental pick. Let's hope all is well with Darren Clarke, and keep an eye on Sean O'Hair. Finally, brace yourself for the slowest gun in the west - the one and only Ben Crane!
the 4 ive gone for as slightly outside bets are. J M Olazabal, M A Jimenez, L Westwood and S. Appleby, who are all capable of winning it, i wanna see Jimenez win this one though get back up to his standard which he was at a few years back. obviously tiger should be there abouts, but its matchplay golf and a few bogey's or in some cases par can lose you a match, specially if the other fellas hitting top form, thats the standard thats set nowdays.
wouldnt mind to see the brilliant fred couples follow up on his great play at the nissan open too. also if tiger's still got the flu which made him withdraw from the nissan i cant see him doing too well either, just another thing which could make tiger under perform in the matchplay.

I'm rooting for Monty & Daly and hoping Tiger is in the mix.
Out of the last 7 World Match Play event finals there have been 12 Americans and 2 Europeans, 6 American Champions & 1 European Champion.
Of those 7 final pairings Tiger Woods played in Three (won twice) and David Toms played in Two (won once).
1999 - Jeff Maggert def. Andrew Magee 38 holes
2000 - Darren Clark def. Tiger Woods 4 & 3
2001 - Steve Stricker def. Pierre Fulke 2 & 1
2002 - Kevin Sutherland def. Scott McCarron 1 up
2003 - Tiger Woods def. David Toms 2 & 1
2004 - Tiger Woods def. Davis Love III 3 & 2
2005 - David Toms def. Chris DiMarco 6 & 5
Well I just filled mine out. I have Tiger winning it all. Not just because hes number one but because I think he can do it. He also has a pretty nice record in this championship. I'd rather see someone else win it. I'm just looking forward to some of these great match-ups.
P.S. How do I fill out my third place spot? How do I know who goes there?
I think Adam Scott's due for a win here. Every year he seems like he gets to the final 4 or final 8 but can't win it. I've never been a big fan of picking favorites here, besides Tiger. I think the other #1 seeds, Vijay, Retief and Ernie, will get bounced in the first couple rounds.
