A question for you, the golf historians...what is the shortest 18 hole match play in the PGA ranks?

Would 9 and 8 win come close to it?
Only 10 & 8 would better it.

Ames: "Sorry I didn't give you a better game, Tiger"
Tiger: "Who could ask for a better game than 9 and 8"

You don't happen to know GR member mr3856a do you? You two look an awful lot alike!
A 10 & 9 win in an 18 hole match used to be possible, will have to check which rule stated "The loss of the previous hole in match-play". If it happened on the first you could have been 1 down with 18 to play.
Will look it up today.

10 & 9 in an 18 hole match? You've been driving on the wrong side of the road again! You keep looking and get back to us.

I am going back to the 70's.
Someone decided that a penalty on the previous hole was wrong so the rule was changed in 1976 I believe. It was something to do with carrying too many clubs, I think it was brought up by Peter Alliss when Ian Woosnam found an extra club in his bag in The Open at Lytham.

Penalty, or no penalty, you're still going to have to show me where it's possible to be 10 holes up with 9 holes to
play in an 18 hole match.

I'm not dogging you........the 70's were a bit "fuzzy" for me too!

Without a DQ, 10 holes is the least amount of holes that can be played in an 18 hole match, and have a winner determined.

Ouch.....to make it being #64 and then talking smack to the #1 golfer in the world? My guess is that Ames is toast. Talking trash to Tiger is like giving him 5 strokes.
Guys, I am no Ames fan but he was trying not to cry after that spanking and he was clearly joking around. Tiger was within 10 feet of him when he made that comment and he purposly looked over to tiger who was watching his interview putting it out there that Tiger played an awesome 9 holes and no one could beat him that day. I would with NBC and I had phoned my friend who does camera for ESPN sports/NBC/ABC and and ED said they seemed to be joking around a lot before and after that beating.

Ames may have been joking but his comments still got Tiger's attention. See this for Tiger's response:

I heard Tiger was upset because he paid for an 18 hole greens fee yesterday. He went into the pro shop at La Costa and told them about his match.

They gave him a raincheck to use for today. Free golf for Tiger today if he can finish Allenby off in 2 hours! ; )

Yeah, I knew that. I guess I wasn't clear with my question...So here is a question I meant to ask...

Anyone know if there has ever been a PGA match play round that ended 10/8?

I figured that Ames was just gonna walk into the clubhouse after the 9th hole...maybe pick something for lunch, cause it was obvious that Tiger stole his yesterday!

At any rate, hope Tiger didn't waste all his good play yesterday...Allenby's a tough competitor and won't go down lightly today.

The tour guys should always talk smack about Tiger, then he would win every tounament he played in like he said. Nothing better than watching Tiger Woods when he plays with purpose. Stephen, Stephen, Stephen, I wonder if he'll be invited to the Target Golf Championship.

Is Allenby "Ames-ing" Tiger today???

He's got Tiger two down thru two. Hopefully he will say the wrong thing to Tiger soon, and wake him up.
