The Fields Open - lpga

Just thought this event should have it's own thread.

Michelle Wie tees off at 7:48 AM in round 1.
In the group behind her, is Morgan Pressel.

The group after that has:
Virada Nirapathpongporn - very successful amateur.
Ai Miyazato - Japanese wonderwoman
Brittany Lang - tied 2nd at US Open in 2005.

I just hope it is an exciting event.
I'm backing Wie to win the title. What's new?

Wie, Pressel, Miyazato in the final group on Sunday anyone? That'd be an exciting finish, no?

Maybe too exciting.
If Creamer & Kerr were thrown in the 2nd last group, then it would be off the chart.

I still like Creamer or Kerr for the title. Wie doesn't have any more growing up to do, but maturity is something that doesn't come easily.

Okay
Seon Hwa Lee is -4 after 4 holes.
She is 144 in the rankings by the way.

Wie had a -5 round of 67.
Great start and hopefully she will continue to play well.

Pressel also shot a 67 and Miyazato had a 68. Paula Creamer had what appears to be a poor day with an even par 72.

Yes stlcard, and Paula actually had 2 birdies on her last two holes, just to get that even par round.

I'm glad Wie hasn't put herself out of contention after 1 round, as she had done on some previous occasions.

Especially in a 3 day tournament, a good start is ultra important. If it was a 4 round tourney, Paula Creamer would probably still have a bit of a chance, but in this case, she maybe needs a 62 or so.

The ball must really be rolling this week...according to the LPGA.com stats, Creamer averaged 292 yards off the tee today, Miyazato 289 and Pressel 273. No listing for Wie...they must not compile stats for non-members?

Maybe they don't want to show the driving average of a non-member that embarrassed their members!

They don't have statistics for nonmembers or for the amateurs. It would be nice if they did the same as the PGATOUR.com does with the PGA tournaments and include listings for all the players in the field. The TOURcast is even better in that you can follow any player's even if they aren't a member of any tour. Even The Golf Channel is also better in that you can actually look up just about any player and get their career information whereas the LPGA only does it for members.

Yes they only do it for members and it is very annoying.
They should get their act together.

So much for someone's idea that there's only one girl in the world who can hit the long ball...
