What is WRONG with Jim Gray? Or should I ask, how does this man keep his job on ESPN?
Immediately following the loss in a great match to Phil, John Daly is signing autographs for kids and along comes Jim Gray for the interview. After asking a few questions about the match in general, JD responds appropriately, describing how he feels he played well, etc. And just that he gave Phil some chances to capitalize blah blah blah....
Then comes the "John, are you finding it tough to play and concentrate with your wife in jail, and all that going on? (paraphrasing)". Daly replies with a long pause, a strange look at Gray, and, "I try to do my best all the time." After a VERY uncomfortable pause, Gray repeats himself, "But do you find it tough with this going on?" Another LONG pause and Daly says, "Sure it is."
Daly starts moving away, Gray keeps the microphone in his face trying to get something else out of a FURIOUS John Daly.
WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS LINE OF QUESTIONING? What purpose does it serve? Daly is over there, happy with his loss, signing for kids, and he has to listen to this **** from that pencil-neck Jim Gray?
I don't think I have been that angry in a LONG time. Gray is always pulling this **** . Does anyone remember when he got way out of line a few years back in an interview with Pete Rose?
Jim Gray is a joke.

Reason: inappropriate language
If Gray is known for pulling such tricks, why do players agree to talk to him? If enough players just declined Jim Gray interviews, then he would be out of a job.
And I think Gray was smirking back at the camera as to say, "See, I can ask the TOUGH questions..."
BTW guys, I appologize for the edits in my original post. I didn't realize that word was trouble. But I was trying to get across how angry I was with out using the REAL bad ones!
Reporters have all seemed to look for the worst in everything. Tabloid Journalism, is what I call it. Sad to see it represented in golf by this jerk. If JD would have bloused his eye, or told him to 'bug off', ALL sports networks would attack Daly. Way it is.

What a jerk. Say what you want about John, but he's living his life on the big screen. You don't have to step in and remind him of how difficult things are in his life right now. Jim Grey is also the one who went after Pete Rose at the all-stsar game a few years ago. He really is an idiot.
Maybe we should start our own petition against this guy. I'm sure the tour players are under rules with regards to the press, but we aren't. Maybe if we got enough signatures, we could get this **** to stop. It's one thing asking about your game, but it's quite another when it comes to a person's personal life.

Yeah, after the All-Star game ambush on Pete Rose I pretty much started disliking Jim Gray. Then he goes after John daly! I'm sure that word has spread around the locker room. I would just politely decline any interviews with him if he came up to me. Can't stand him. Simp
Guys, go to ESPN.com............Contact Us..............ESPN TV..........
Here you can voice your opinion of this absolute disgrace yesterday. Who knows if anyone will ever read our rants. At least for me, venting to ESPN might make me feel better...
This is just a quick note to voice my displeasure with the absolutely disgraceful interview yesterday of John Daly by Jim Gray following the 2nd-round match.
Why is it necessary for Mr. Gray to bring up Daly's personal life in a post-match interview? Immediately, the question regarding John's wife appeared to make Daly furious as well as make it terribly uncomfortable for me as a viewer. As Daly politely attempted to avoid the question, Mr. Gray felt it necessary to repeat the himself. All the while, Daly is signing autographs for fans he loves.
Of course John's domestic troubles have been well documented throughout his career. But this man did NOT deserve that treatment yesterday and it added NOTHING to my viewing experience.
Mr. Gray seems to have a history of finding ways to make himself part of the broadcast in this negative manner. I thought he may have learned his lesson long ago when pulling this same act with Pete Rose.
Please see to it that the golf broadcasts remain just that. Leave the domestic gossip for the tabloid magazines...

"I am writing to let you know how dissapointed I was with Jim Gray's interview of John Daly after his round with Phil Mickelson yesterday at the World Golf Championship Match Play.
As an avid viewer of ESPN programming I expect ESPN to show a little more class and dignity when interviewing athletes. Jim Gray is a black sheep in an otherwise great ESPN golf team. I would hope that he learned his mistake from his interview with Pete Rose a couple years ago. Obviously not.
I was sad to here you will no longer be televising golf in 2007 I really enjoyed watching golf on ESPN/ABC these past few years and I hope someday the PGA Tour will again be on your family of networks. I just hope when that happens Jim Gray is working for the tabloids, where he belongs."
