Bubba Watson interview

He is pretty interesting.

Rodney will like this one:
Q. Obviously you're here, so you had to have had a certain degree of success to get to the Nationwide Tour and now get to the PGA Tour, so you know, you've done more than most. But do you believe that the way you've gone about it, is it just unique and individual to you and what works for other people might be different?

BUBBA WATSON: Yeah, everybody is going to be different. You know, let's see, the No. 1 player in the world, the No. 2 player in the world, they all work out and probably try to eat healthier than me. I don't do that. I don't get a lesson. I don't practice as much as a lot of players. It's unique to everybody. Whoever you talk to, it's going to be different than the next person.

Success, I mean, I see success as when you start winning, I've never won, so that's the way everybody media, that's the way everybody looks at it is when you win. And if you start winning, they say, why haven't you won a major; it's just going to escalate from there. Right now, I'm a nobody in the golfing industry because I haven't won. Third place isn't looked upon highly, unless you're Michelle Wie. (Laughter).

The guy definitely has talent but you have to wonder how far will talent alone take him if he doesn't work on his game. All the elite players on the world have talent, but what separates them is THEY ALL WANT TO GET BETTER THAN THEY ARE!

He's a good player, and I like to watch him boom drives...but his arrogance really irritates me.

I don't blame him for being jealous, considering he was probably hustling gas money from his buddies in long drive contests when he was 16.

I was tempted to post that quoe by Bubba. It was in last weeks Golfweek.

I think it was a great comment.

He was in some special on TGC about the Nationwide players who earned their tour cards for the 2006 season and said that he wants to buy a replica of the General Lee when he wins his first event. Who can't love a guy like that?

Rodney Wie certainly will not be happy with this quote.

Todd

Kind of reminds me of another long hitter...maybe you've heard of him? John Daly? Same work ethic, same ind of talent but no work attitude, same likeable demeanor, and EVERYONE likes watching them hit the little white ball a looooong way.

On in Two, I agree with your comparison with John Daly. Makes you wonder if with that kind of work ethic, will he ever reach his potential, considering he has all that talent.

Being jealous of what exactly? I detect absolutely zero jealousness from his comments. Then again, I'm not wearing WIE colored glasses.

Notoriety, maybe ? The notoriety and $$$ that Michelle has received despite the fact she's never won a tournament ? Perhaps he was kidding (laughter), but why even bring her up after his 3rd place finish ? She's done better than that BTW, a few times .... in majors.... at an age when "Bubba" was probably hustling beer money from the local range rats betting that he could clear the back fence. Bubba turns 28 this year. He'd better get on his horse if he aspires to be the next JD. Big John had 4 wins and 2 majors before he turned 30. Winless wonders who hit it a mile have a short shelf-life as media darlings (see Hank Kuehne). But .....

I remain shocked ....

flabbergasted .....

and dumbfounded

that you and leaguegolf can detect no jealousy in Bubba's statement.

Bubba Watson, played 4 FULL SEASONS on the Nationside Tour.
He didn't win in FOUR FULL SEASONS WITH 88 events or so.

Michelle has played about 26 lpga events, starting at about age 12, when she was missing cuts regularly and gradually building up, to challenging for titles.

When Michelle Wie has played 88 events, I wlll predict that she will have not only won, but also won more 5 events or more.

So Bubba might keep hitting his drives 800 yards, but he certainly has had much slower progress in his career than Michelle Wie.

How many titles did he have when he was 16? Oh wait, none.
How many titles will Michelle Wie have when she is 27 like Bubba? Maybe Leaguegolf can answer that question.

If Bubba could just have got that 3rd place, 11 years ealier when he was 16, maybe he would have got the praise he wanted. Poor little hubba-bubba.
Wie has beat that 3rd place, 3 or 4 times already.

It's a real good bet that Bubba already has more 3rd Place finishes on the PGA Tour than Wie will EVER have, (and a PGA Tour card to go along with it) but let's save that for the other thread.
I think you have missed the point, but what's new there!
Bubba is 27 years old, and is comparing himself to Michelle Wie, because he hasn't won.

Bubba is 27 years old.
How many titles will Michelle have when she is 27 years old? Plenty I'd bet.
