Yeah, I think even a 6 would have allowed him to make the weekend, but I'm thinking he decided to mail it in. That was one of the worst chokes in the history of sports I think. 65 and leading to 83 and missing the cut by 4 shots from a guy who has PROVEN he loves the PLAYERS Championship and has played great in this event throughout his career.

Unfortunately I can't speak on the rouind without seeing it. Was he injured or did he just play lousy?

Look who else missed the cut:

Justin Leonard
Steward Cink
Stuart Appleby
Micheal Campbell
Padraig Harrington
Luke Donald
Colin Montgomrie
David Toms
Rory Sabatini

That's a pretty good group of players to be on the outside looking in.

What's really impressive is that nine shots separates the 83 guys that made the cut.

In my mind Davis Love III is a good player but I think he's peaked. Based on last years PGA Championship when he had a chance to really take control of the tournament in the third and fourth rounds, his play in this year Accenture Match play and now this. The guy just has lost the mental ability to step up and play to a higher level.

What's insane is he'll probably end up making a couple of million dollars a year playing at the level he's at now.

Not even Love is immune from that horrible round that we all have. You know, that round where absolutely nothing goes right, and the harder you try to fix it the worse it gets. This round was an abberation and I do not think it is indicative of a major collapse of Davis Love III.

A 5 on the 9th, (his 18th) would have got him in but his drive ended stone dead behind a tree and he had to take a drop and could only then put in in the bunker (3) so he needed to get down in two from 200yds. Miss-hit it so now need to hole it out of deep rough. He didn't so that was that. If he took 3 more or 9 more it didn't matter, he was on his way home.
If he hadn't have had bad luck he wouldn't have had any luck at all.

It was painful to watch...then again, to a lot of us, it was like watching one of the guys in our own foursome. Of course, this was one of the world's best players getting snakebitten...and making history for the wrong reason.

Davis is a profession as Jim Furyk said. I do take some guilty pleasure seeing a world class, major winner play like I do once in a while. Number 9 was the type of blow up hole most of have at least once a round.

After the round Davis was asked how he'd shot 83.

"I missed the putt for 82".

Davis is one of these guys I just can't seem to figure out for the life of me.... He has a great game, tee to green. He has a great attitude, or so it appears. Most everyone on tour likes him, which isn't always the case when you're talking about some of the egos on tour.

You'd just think that he would be the one guy who has one of those seasons that really earmarks his career, that breaks a few records. He hasn't, not when you consider the level of talent that he has.
