Van de Velde holds on for a win.

http://www.thegolfchannel.com/news/euro/18857.html?

Despite a double bogey on the final hole of the Madeira Island Open, Jean Van de Velde held on to win his first event in 13 years. I wonder if he had some "oh no, not again" thoughts snuck into his head as he had his issues on 18?

Hard to get excited about a bumbling victory over a less-than-Nationwide TOUR-quality field. I know....a win's a win.

That's true droogy, although after Jean's well publicized troubles on the final holes of events, I'd still have to say he's happy with the victory.

I'm happy for the guy. Ever since the British Open that he lost, I've kind of felt sorry for him despite the fact that he brought that one on himself.

Well after 13 yrs of trying he has finally learned one fact of golf.
If you are going to double the 72nd hole make sure your are at least 3 ahead on the tee.

Its great to see him win one at last.

Yup. Would have been funny if he would have tripled 18

One noteworthy point in this tournament was the second place finish of Lee Slattery . This guy is another very good European young gun who`s had alot of health problems he`s now hopefully put behind him . He won the 2004 Challenge Tour, and is definitely one to watch

Poor Jean. At least he got the "W". I just read an article about his win and it started....

"Van de Velde.

In golf, it's not only a name, it's a verb."
