Phil Leads by 6 shots after 36 holes!

He had a great 65 today (bogey free) and a 63 yesterday and i believe that with this kind of lead that he could really run away with this although JJ Henry showed some good play on the last few holes. What do you think about his chances of winning? Who would you suspect to come out and have a great round to get in the lead tomarrow if it were to happen?

Just moving this to the proper forum...thanks for the heads up BKG.

However, I do think this one is Phil's to lose. He played poorly on the weekend at Doral but I can't expect it to happen twice.

Phil has been the leader or co-leader, through two rounds, 21 times in his illustrious PGA TOUR career. He has gone on to win 11 times, including three of the last five opportunities.

I think it is quite unlikely that Phil will let a six stroke advantage get away from him. This is quite cool! Phil needs a victory.

Gavin Coles, J. J. Henry, Charles Warren and Jonathan Byrd have all shown themselves to be quite unreliable. Journeymen all. And Jose-Maria Olazabal will be hard-pressed to follow his impressive 64 with another fine round. This could end up being quite the Mickelson romp. I certainly hope so.

Phil is the ultimate gambler. That's why he show's flashes of brilliance (like now) and has flashes of disaster. Got to love it!

I wish the course was playing a little tougher so it would be a better tune up for next week. But the greens are soft, you can attack the pins and the course is really playing the opposite of Augusta right now. Nevertheless, it's a good confident boost for the guys that are playing well here and play next week.

Geez... he's now 21 under after 45 holes. What a display. An 11-shot lead, I think it is now.

I looked at his scorecards for 2 1/2 rounds so far, to figure out his "ringer" score, by taking his best score for each hole. His ringer score is -14. By the end of the tourney, could be -18 or more. Amazing.

Other than the blips late, he was so solid today. No way does he let an 8 shot lead get away. If he just goes out and plays conservative the entire round he'll walk away with it. I don't see anyone shooting a 62 to catch him tomorrow. Nice tuneup for Augusta for Phil.

NBC went off the air at 6pm, so we didn't get to see Phil finish. I was shocked to just find out that he made the 26 footer for double bogey. Great recovery for Phil. It's hard to imagine a tour pro being happy with a 7, but I would think he felt pretty good.

Come to think of it, the last time I saw a pro happy to make a 7, was when Van de Velde made that putt to get into the playoff at Carnoustie! lol

Wow, Phil tears the course apart again today with a 65 to finish (with an eagle, to boot) at -28 and a 13 shot win. They said it was the third biggest margin of victory on the PGA Tour in the last 50 years, behind only Tiger's US Open win in 2000 (15 shots) and Johnny Miller at the Phoenix (14 shots). Think he's ready for Augusta?

I guess he's ready. If he hits that 2nd shot at 18 yesterday another foot that's at least another -3.

Folks, no doubt this is a great confident boost, but Sugarloaf and Augusta are two totally different animals. He's not going to be able to go after flags the way he did this week, not with the weather conditions that are expected next week. Hard, fast greens return to Augusta. I do believe Phil will be one of the faves next week, though, b/c he has played Augusta well. I really, really like Retief b/c he's striking the ball well and loves the faster greens, and they will be very fast next week with hardly a drop of rain expected. I CAN'T WAIT for thursday!

I have not seen any comment on Phyl using two drivers a fade and draw biased.
I think he could go after the flags because he was hitting so many GIR. Being on the fairway 75% of the time helps.

I bet you if you offered Phil 12 of the 13 strokes he won by as his under par score at Augusta, he'd bite...
