Although I'm sure there will be spinoffs on various topics, it'd be nice to have a hearty discussion going during the tournament concentrated in one thread. So I'll begin...the 2006 Masters is underway!!
Early on, Lefty's boy Rod Pampling is showing that anyone can get lucky at the right time and ride that streak to glory. 2 under thru 9 holes and in the lead by himself. By the looks of the leaderboard, that place is playing tough.
Other notables: M.A. Jiminez at 1 through 6, Ben Crane E through 7, Faldo 1 through 6, and David Duval 3 through 7.
Not a lot of red numbers early. But Pampling has it going. Played that tough stretch of holes 9-12 one-under par. Now he has the easier holes of 13-15. Might be able to get to 4-under before all is said and done.
For the next 2 days this is probably the easiest this course will play. Course is going to be much firmer today, and then tomorrow the last thing these players want will arive: the wind. Tiger Woods prediction of even-par might win by a mile may not look so bad.
Interesting note....the Pampling is the first group of the day and they just finished 13. The Crane group is the 2nd group of the day, and they're still on 11. There's going to be some major backups today.

Could that be Ben holding things up again? And I picked him too!
I'm listening to Masters Radio on Masters.org and it sounds like Tiger has missed quite a few good chances at birdie already through 7 holes. He bogied the 4th, which is no surprise. That hole sounds like it's going to be a beast from now on. They interviewed him and he said he'd never hit a wood into that green, but through all the practice rounds he'd used a wood (presumably a 5-wood) each day.
While watching live at Amen Corner, I saw Rocco Mediate.... Rocco Mediate??? What is he doing in the Masters?? I quickly grabbed my list and saw that he got invited by finishing in the top 8 in last year's US Open. Good for him. Not only that, he leads the tournament after 14 holes at -2. Seems like a likeable guy.
Another name that jumps out is Ben Crenshaw, at even par through 15. Great playing!

Actually, through 14 Rocco is at -3. He birdied 13 and 14. Tiger just birdied the 8th to move back to Even for the day. How about Freddie Couples??? He's playing great so far: -2 through 7 holes. Go Freddie! Crenshaw just birdied 16 to move to -1! Wow, go Gentle Ben!
