Well, the final round has begun and the players are heading for a lunch before they head back out on the course this afternoon. It's a great leaderboard with just about anyone you could want to see in contention...in contention. 21 guys begin the round within 5 shots of the lead, and as we all know, there can be some magic on the back nine. So who's your pick to win?
I hereby ensure Tiger's loss by picking him to win. He'll make some back-nine birdies, and the crowd roars will be heard by the groups behind and ahead of him. He'll post a number then wait to see if they can catch him. They won't.
Or else maybe that's what happens in a parallel universe.
I would love to see Tiger win, but Fred would be a good choice also.I think the course is going to play really tough today (fast greens). It could be somebody we least expect.
My head says Phil...he's playing pretty well and the trend is that the winner always comes from the final pairing. However, I just can't go against Tiger at this point. I think he cleans up a little of the sloppy play from this morning and shoots 68 to force a playoff with Phil. Tiger wins with a birdie on the 1st extra hole.
I'm going for Darren Clarke, not because he is from this side of the pond
(well yes!) but he and Ames are the only ones that are enjoying the challenge. IF DC had not hit the water at 15 and made 5 he would be in front.
Also if he is truly not bothered if he shoots 68 or 78 he will not wilt under pressure.
I think with this being the 20 year anniversary of Jack Nicklaus' come from behind, I predict one of 2 things happens. Tiger breaks that crazy last pairing stat and charges from behind to win like Jack did OR Fred Couples, the same age as Jack Nicklaus in '86, wins his 2nd green jacket. Rooting for Freddie, but i think Tiger will win.
Also, don't count out guys like Retief or Ernie. This is a course where you can get on streaks and make birdies/eagles, and if one of those shoot a 66 or 67, they can win. Goosen has played very well in the final round this year compared to last. Not saying it's going to happen, but i wouldn't be surprised.
