Mickelson -- Halfway to the Tiger Slam

Besides winning a major in each of the last three years (an accomplishment overlooked by many because of Tiger).

If he wins U.S. and Briitsh Open, he completes the Tiger slam. (Hopefully not overlooked due to Tiger)...

Tiger was very gracious in giving him the green jacket. Phil deserves to be ranked #2.

That would be the Phil Slam if he were to pull it off. I imagine he'll be right up there in the US Open, but Phil rarely fares well "across the pond".

No way Phil wins the Open Championship...he'll contend at Winged Foot if he continues to hit his drivers well, but his ball flight just isn't conducive to playing well in the wind of a British Open.

I think he's got a decent chance at Winged Foot if he drives the way he did this week. Right now he and Goosen are probably the two best bets at the U.S. Open in two months. I don't think Winged Foot is a good course for Tiger, though. As for the British, I'd definitely keep my money away from Phil there. He just doesn't play well over there.

The old saying "what will Phil do next" is going out the window. He's much more in control now. Too bad he didn't learn that earlier he'd probably have four more majors under his belt.

I don't think he has a chance, but I do think their is an argument for him to be ranked 2nd now.

He will be second when the new rankings come out.

Now THAT is some good comedy. Where's rodney_c by the way? Shouldn't he chime in on this one?

Like a lot of things in life, sometimes you have to mature into success. With Phil the talent was ALWAYS THERE. He just needed to reach a level of maturity in terms of his golf game to reach the level he's at now.

I think it would be an incredible feat if he could do it. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. Of course, I would've said the same thing about Tiger the year he did it. LOL....

Well, Phil has really found something that works for him with the dual-driver thing. I still don't think he has it perfected, and he won't become as dominant as Tiger has been, but he will be a bigger influence on the tourneys he plays in. He has shown he deserves the #2 spot. Of course, if VJ finds his equivalent to the dual-driver gimmick (maybe 2 putters - one for putts over 10 feet, another for the closer ones) he may become a threat again as well.

I am glad to see the level of play increasing all around - overall the best keep getting better, and the rest are pushing them pretty hard! Even a "Tiger Slam" is harder today than it was when it first happened!

i believe phil does have a chance at winning the Open. he placed third in 2004 and i don't see why he wouldn't be able to post another good score considering how he's playing this year

Also, remember that Phil is the only one with a chance at the REAL Grand Slam. You gotta win the Masters to have a shot at winning the Grand Slam.

I dunno, personally I think a Grand Slam is owning all 4 major trophies at the same time.

Uh-oh, this can become as heated a debate as one of our many Michelle Wie threads.
