Next young golfer to start winning majors

After hearing the oft mentioned stat by a few golf analysts the past few weeks that only one American golfer under the age of 30 (Jonathan Byrd - 2 wins) has won more than once on the PGA, and this last weekend's Masters, where the next generation seemed to be absent from the leaderboard at the end, who do you think will be the young golfers that will win some majors. The international and European players are producing a few such as Adam Scott and Luke Donald, who else has the game?

I think Villegas shows promise. He also has a very good attitude about being out to play his best and learn what he can. Seems very mature and a likable guy.

JB Holmes has game but has done nothing since his win. Ryan Moore has a world of talent but is recovering from a hand operation. Bubba Watson may be a bit too much like John Daly. Luke List may develop soon.

If Segio could putt. Maybe Geoff Oglivy...He had a decent Masters.

Nobody on this side of the pond anytime soon. What's wrong with US golf ? There's been Tiger starting in '96 and then... zip... nada. Maybe I'll leave this one for Lefty. It deserves it's own thread.

Lucas Glover has a lot of potential, he's almost 27 though.

Potential is just another word for you haven't done yet. I suppose eventually someone will step up. I'd like to live to see it.

I'd have to agree that Geoff Ogilvy could break through and win a Major soon. In the last four Majors he's had a T28 at the US Open, a T5 at the British Open, a T6 at the PGA, and he finished T16 this weekend.

I think Sergio has already inherited Phil's "best player to never win a major" crown, but Phil didn't do it until he was in his 30s. I had forgot about Villegas. What's funny is that most of the young internationals spent time playing competitively at U.S. universities, so I don't think you can fault the lack of instruction for the dearth of winning American players.

id go with villegas too, i think he can win a major within the next 3 years.
he's certainly got the game, if hes got the b***ocks and mental game too then you can count on him winning a major ( probably more than once ).

I certainly believe Camilo has what it takes to win a major before turning 30. He reminds me so much of a young Severiano Ballesteros. And I would be a bit surprised if Sergio and Adam Scott turned 30 without winning a major.

Ryan Moore is the only American player, under 30, who I believe has a good chance of winning a major before 30. Lucas Glover and Zach Johnson could surprise, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I think it's going to take Villegas a while b/c of his putting. It's the same problem Sergio has. Too many times on Sunday he's missing those 3-4 footers. Until he gets that figured out, he's not going to win a major. I think Luke Donald will get one before he turns 30. He has 7 more stabs at it.

yep agree with that, that's his mental part of the game as he's a good putter on normal circumstances, just when it get's to sunday and he looks a certain contender he misses too many short putts, sometimes by quite a way too.
sergio just cannot putt properly on any day of the week .
its not good to see such great approach player's missing easy putts like camilo and sergio, but they will get better with time (well i hope so, only problem is so far, sergio has got worse worse with time).

Actually out of all the young guys, Geof Olgivy seems to be the most consistent and has the best all around game. "If Sergio could putt" is going to continue to be an issue. He probably would have already won at least one major already if his putting was better.

Other up and comming guys who not only have the game but the mental approach to win a major are Luke Donald, Chad Campbell, Adam Scott, and Trevor Immelman.
