While the new selection criteria is an effort to improve the selection process. It doesn't address the real issues in the process except for weighting this year's events even more heavily.
1. Performance in majors in 2005 count more than performances in 2006 including events like Players Championship.
2. B.C. Open and Tucson still count as much as Players Championship and other strong events like Doral, Los Angles, Memorial, and Bay Hill.
3. There's not much difference in finishing 11th, 12th , or 13th vs. finishing 10th. Does a person who has a couple of 5th place finishes and a bunch of missed cuts deserve more points than a person who has a bunch of 11th-15th place finishes but no missed cuts.
The Ryder Cup needs to follow the President's Cup in selection. The Ryder Cup picks the top 5/6 players. However the players from 7th-10th don't necessarily represent the remaining best players (i.e. Funk, Riley)
I think they should put more weight on top 5 finishes the year of the competition.
and not count events such as Tucson and B.C. as much as Players Championship, Doral, LA, Bay Hill, and Memorial. Opposite field events should not even be considered for Ryder and President's Cup.
