Most underrated player

Who do the current most underrated player is and why?

My personal opinion is Fred Couples. He's a good guy, but only one major under his belt with all that talent? I also felt he coasted on his natural ability and wasn't really committed to cranking his game up.

He had a lot of personal issues during his peak career that he was dealing with which got in the way of his focus.

I don't think Fred Couple is underrated as he is an underachiever. Granted he was one of the best golfers in the world in the early to mid 90's but I got the feeling he could have gotten more out of his game.

As it is he's still one of the best players in the world even at age 46.

Just moving this to the proper forum. I'd say the most underrated player is probably David Howell. He seems to play well in majors and has a few wins around the world in the past few years to back it up. I wouldn't be surprised if he wins a PGA Tour event soon.

I would put Geoff Oglivy as the most underrated.

Tim Clark, David Toms, and Chad Campbell are my close runner-ups.

Fred Couples just doesn't care. He's said a few times in interviews that at times on the course he just gets bored and wishes he could go home or not even make the cut so he could go home (not a quote, but something along those lines). You can kinda just tell in his actions and dimeanor on the course.

I think right now the most underrated player is Tim Clark. You don't hear a lot about him, but he's got some serious game.

To me it was Ray Floyd. He had a great record, won majors, but always seemed to be stuck in Jacks shadow, as were most other golfers.

If there was someone to make a putt for my life it would be Ray in his prime.

Had Fred Couples not hurt his back , he wins another 10 tourney's and another major or two. The guy is extremely talented , amongest the most talented golfers ever, but certainly not as committed as the others. But, still when you talk about great golfers , Fred Couples must be mentioned.

Underrated = Geoff Oglive
All the talk about guys like Chuck Howell, etc etc ... Geoff's game puts them to shame
Overrated = Chris DiMarco and it isnt even a issue

Harrington, but he will get plenty of recognition when he wins his first major, and that will be in the next 3 majors.

Most under-rated player?

To all in the US.

Monty.

To all this side of the pond

Mark James.

How about a thread for the over-rated as well.

Lots of Order of Merits, lots of European Tour wins, not a single victory on American soil, good success in Ryder Cups but alas............ no major championship for Monty

Awwww.... League, don't go at Monty just yet.... he's still got time to pull it off....

In Europe, Henrik Stenson or Padraig Harrington, in America i'd like to see Chris DiMarco get more coverage.

By the way, what's happened to David Duval?
